  1. Pope Francis says Atheists are saved

After this, I'm gonna try to let this die down because it's like a proven fact that talking about religion and politics is going to turn into a big ass argument.       Don't hate, respect homie.  If you got something to say, say it.               Here is the thing about 9/11...  To say that Islam was a direct cause for the attacks is a stretch.  Here is what we know for fact:  Osama Bin Laden said himself in a 1998 fatwa that 1.  The sanctions and trade embargo that were placed on Iraq, after Iraq had withdrew from Kuwait, were reason enough to mass murder Americans.   2.  Another factor were the 5,000 U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia, which Al Qaeda felt was too close to Mecca.   3.  The U.S. support for Israel.   This list could go on and on, but we can't prove which factors had more influence than others.   I don't have a whole lot of experience with Middle Easterns since I haven't applied for the EOD job that I want.  (I'm in the Marine Corps)  But from what I understand, Middle Easterns are generally fuck ups.  Not only are they still decades behind us in terms of technology, they're just a bunch of dumbasses.  I learned how to disassemble, clean, and reassemble a Glock .38 in one day; it takes the average Iraqi police officer approximately 2 weeks to learn these basic things (my uncle told me this one, and he did a few tours training the Iraqis to take care of themselves).  I was told not to shake hands with people in Afghanistan because their toilet is a hole in the middle of their house, and they have to wipe their ass with their hand because toilet paper isn't a thing. So on one hand you have a bunch of dumbfucks, an extremist leader with radical ideas to attack Westerners, and now let's throw religion into the equation.   These guys, in their own mind, already have enough justification to mass murder Americans.  I'm not an expert on the Quran, but from some of the stuff that I've read in the chapter of Sura, the book basically encourages taking up the Jihad.  This is something that I don't understand.  At least with the Old Testament in the Bible, the Jews were bound under Mosaic law that Jesus threw away when he arrived with the new covenant.  That's why modern day Christians are able to shave, eat pork, etc... There are at least 109 versus that encourage the killing of nonbelivers for the sake of Islamic rule, and the best that I can make of this is that the commands were adressed to an audience at the time that the specific letters were written.  You'd have to be a fool to think that a loving could condone such violent actions.   In a nutshell, there is a whole lot more to 9/11 and the Iraq war than just Islam.       You can't exactly make that argument anymore.  Scientists have found a method of experimenting with stem cells that doesn't require taking them from a zygote/embryo.  But yes, in the past there was a huge moral dillema with this, and In Vitro Fertilization as well.       I'm not 100% sure what you're trying to say here.  Kids learn pretty much everything they need to know in like the 7th and 8th grade at school.  Plus with shows like South Park and Tosh.0, the national geographic channel, internet porn, etc... you can't say that some whipper snapper is gonna try to do a girl in the ear canal or something.   On a different topic, not only is abstinence until marriage a pillar of nearly every major belief system, it's been a part of our society for generations.  And not just our society, but this goes for most of the world's advanced civlilizations.  It's actually pretty rare to find abstinence educational programs, because most religious morals are incorporated in church teaching.       You'll actually find that with Catholic theology, the possibility for Evolution is there.  You won't find a whole lot of Catholics trying to argue with science.  The main difference in beliefs is that we believe that throughout whatever procress brought us here, there was an intelligent creator forseeing the process.  However, I do see where you're coming from.  A lot of Protestants try to make a creationism case against evolution.  We all saw how the Ken Ham 1v1 Bill Nye debate went...       That's true if you're the Westboro Baptist Church I guess... Homophobia isn't limited to religous people.  There are plenty of Atheists who are conservatives that don't support the homosexuality movement.  People don't like to accept this, but whenever you take a foreign and wonky concept like two men getting married and try to implement that into society, it's not going to be accepted without discrimination.  You honestly can't argue against that.       I do not know of a religion that is opposed to contraception.  Catholicism is opposed to artificial contraception, but accepts the possibility for contraception.  But I don't see how this can be a problem.  It actually makes me kinda angry that sex is such a huge factor in decision making in today's society.       Examples?  I've actually never heard of this one before.       "the rate of new HIV diagnoses among MSM is more than 44 times that of other men, while the rate of primary and secondary syphilis among MSM is more than 46 times that of other men." http://www.cdc.gov/msmhealth/for-your-health.htm   http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6893897   Homosexuality isn't exactly harmless.  And as far as the moral aspect goes, homosexuality has always been taboo.  Always.  This isn't some new idea that Pope Benedict XVI came up with.  We can find examples of gay people throughout history, but society has always rejected it.  If it weren't for so many liberals and secularists, homosexuality wouldn't have come as far along as it has to the current day.
  2. Your favorite car(s)

I am so glad somebody got a hard-on and posted this.   I'm looking at buying a 95 Camaro right now.  Eventually I'll want to put a 350 small block in it and super charge it. why would you wanna do that?       my fav car is prob c3 corvettes, been looking at a bunch on kijiji and went to see some in person, hopefully gonna buy one by the end of summer/start of next summer.     I hate to make genital references in another post, but the lt1 v6 that comes with this camaro makes my wiener go flaccid.  Don't get me wrong, the car can still roll, and it has good gas mileage, but it has so much more potential.   And yeah, that Corvette is sexy.  You're lucky to find that.

Urthor, I'll respond to that when I get some time.         Dangers of organized religion?  Explain.  And if Catholicism is an organized religion, what is an unorganized religion? How is Pope Francis not an outstanding moral example of what we, as people, should strive to be?  Has he, or Catholicism taught anything that you personally disagree with?   You sound like one of those guys who spend too much time on facebook conspiracy theory pages (the ones that spread bullshit propaganda all day, every day).

Dana needs to make this happen!   I would pay any amount of money to see this. Also, I can't wait for the July 5th fights; that's going to be one hell of a fight card.  Lyoto 1v1 Weidman irl, Rousey vs Davis, Pound 4 pound GOAT Chael Sonnen versus Vitor Belfort, and Urijah Faber wages war with a wet paper bag.
  6. Pope Francis says Atheists are saved

I understand.  That is why I said that he needed to be more specific.  But I did try to answer "does it matter?".   If you read that, surely you must have taken something from it?  I expressed a consequence of what false teaching/blasphemy can and did lead to.   And it took me like 15 mins to type that shit, lol.  I was seriously trying hard to remember all the stuff I learned in RCIA and several theology books.
  7. Pope Francis says Atheists are saved

So sorry for taking so long to respond.  I'm in the Marine Core and I've been very busy as of late.  I actually have to wake up at 4:30 in the morning for an IST.   In order for me to accurately answer your question, you need to be more specific.  There are all kinds of blasphemy.   But in a nutshell, I guess I could tell you this...  The worst kind of blasphemy is the unintentional kind.  We could consider blasphemy an act of malice, right?  (Unless it is out of ignorance)  A prime example of this was back in the time of a man named Arius (AD 250-AD 256 or AD 336).  I believe that this example of blasphemy illistrates how false teaching can be dangerous for the Church's well-being.   This man's theology (Arianism) was a nightmare for the young Catholic Church because people were subscribing to his theories. He basically stated that Jesus was The Father's greatest creation, and thus expressed divinity of The Father over Jesus. This is not what we believe.   The Roman Emperor Constantine and Bishops of the Church from around the world gathered at the First Council of Nicea and one of the main reasons was to combat Arianism.  Why?  Because Arius's theories were on the verge of creating a divide within the Catholic Church; this literally contradicts the meaning of the word "Catholic", which translates to "universal".   The topic of Arianism at The First Council of Nicea, which is modern day Turkey, went a little something like this:   As previously mentioned, Arius stated that The Father had divinity over the Son, and this is not our understanding of the Trinity.       What I expressed above is based on what we are able to understand from the Bible and documented in the Catechism. One main verse that the early Bishops used to disprove Arianism was John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God"  The word "word",  represents Jesus (completely separate topic).   I do not recall what Arius's theories were based on, but I could research that if you like.  I do remember that he was an Egyptian Priest for the Church and I suppose he just strayed off with his theological research and came to a conclusion that we knew was incorrect.   But the point being, his theory somehow spread like cancer.  The Church didn't witness a divide until the Protestant Reformation lead by Martin Luther, who was also a Catholic Priest (ironically).  That was a success, and look what it produced.  Because of this Reformation, we now presently have to deal with the Westboro Baptist Church, and judgmental Christians of the like.  Looking back, Luther realized that his Lutheranism Reformation turned out to be something that he did not intend for it to be.  He didn't mean for everybody to make their own religion, and that's what happened.  One Protestent disagreed with something the Menonites said, so then the Anabaptist Chruch came into existence.  Then the Baptist Church, etc...  This happened thousands of times.   Pope Leo tried to combat Luther's heresies at the Diet of Worms, but Luther would absolutely refuse to negotiate.  Luther actually burned the Pope's theological response to Luther's Disputatio pro declaratione virtutis indulgentiarum before reading them.

  9. Pope Francis says Atheists are saved

One of the main differences between Catholics and Protestants is the way we each view redemption.   Redemption:  the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil  OR the action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment, or clearing a debt (penance).   Salvation:  deliverance from sin and its consequences     The Protestant perspective is this: If you accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior, you are "saved".  And thus, you are able to enter Heaven. This is heavily based on 2 doctrines that Martin Luther pushed during the Protestant Reformation known as "Sola Fide" (Justification by faith alone) and "Sola Scriptura" (Justification by scripture alone).  It is hard to accurately represent every denomination because there are literally 40,000 estimated Protestant denominations, but this is the general consensus.   The Catholic perspective is this:  James 2:18 "But someone may say: So you have faith and I have good deeds? Show me this faith of yours without deeds, then! It is by my deeds that I will show you my faith."  Although faith is great...  we as Catholics don't subscribe to the theory that faith alone will justify one getting into heaven.  We believe that God is the ultimate judge, and will judge us accordingly to how we lived our lives.   But we both agree that Jesus is the method of Salvation, and it is through his death and ressurection that we are able to be redeemed.   If there is anything else you would like me to clarify, throw it on the table.  No subject is taboo.
  10. Pope Francis says Atheists are saved

I said no such thing!  lol   As a Roman Catholic, it is my understanding that Jesus died so that everyone may be redeemed (not saved, we're not protestants). It is not our place to try to determine who goes to heaven or hell.  I firmly believe that God is the ultimate judge, and he will judge us according to how we live our lives.
