1. Top 8 San Jose, CA Regionals 4-5-14 (Has other Decklists from Top 8 too)   Right off the bat I just want to say thanks to the people that made this event possible for me: My friend Nima and his amazing family for letting me crash with them again; just an overall amazing friend. I’m glad he managed to secure his first invite and almost make Top 8 (12th), losing only to first place and second place if I’m not mistaken.   I finished a dull morning of nothing special besides eating some Swiss chocolate on Friday, and decide to drive to the Bay Area from Sacramento around noon to meet up with my friend Andrey (Redlight) so we can chill and test. The last week I had managed to pick up everything for every deck, and had been given a Geargia list by 902 and Clay “Hairy Butt Fetish” Arvizu to test. Marhsaun Young and I also tested Fire-Fists the last week extensively on DN, but, the deck was just lackluster. I was solid with Pure Geargia, even though I was testing that and Fire Fist 3.5. I felt really uncomfortable with any of the decks because they all felt expected and easy to counter. I knew, in the back of my head, and after some collaboration with Andrey that Mermails could be the surprise factor deck that no one expects me or anyone to use for this regionals. I knew how to play it and wanted to make up for my 9th place finish the previous week at Reno regionals (the salt was real). We had a list that was running Salvages and several grind choices but were still iffy on how we could change the deck. We chill and grab some Quickly’s popcorn chicken while waiting for some flakey friends, which never showed up, to show up. We test for a bit and decide to go see Captain America 2 at the nearby theater in Alameda. The movie was amazing and I highly recommend it. Scarlett Johansson is an absolute goddess (marry me?). We get the munchies again and decide to go to Subway and test some more. We work out this savage variant of Geargia and Mermails but are leaning towards Water simply because we felt it was head and shoulders above the competition, especially if the optimal plays were made. The deck is finalized, although some of the small choices in the trap lineup were different for us because of preference going into this event. We leave and I drive to my friend’s house for the evening and test a bit with Geargia there, but am solid on Water being my deck for tomorrow.   Decklist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxBZ0cIxsa0   The morning of the event I am pissed because I realize I left the decklist I had Nima’s sister write the night before in my bag at his house. I scurry for a list but see that there’s a ton of people early in line. I made a few subtle choices that none of my friends advocated for the day. I never really wait in line so me, James, and several others get our lists in. I get a few foreign swaps for good luck from friends.   The event is announced and turns out to be the largest regionals in Northern California history. There were 648 players….damn….10 rounds.   * I lost every dice roll of the day except my Round 9 dice roll*   Round 1: Mermails vs Inzektors (chill guy who was getting back into the game so I had to explain some of the effects/chains to him for his future matches vs Water) G1: I’m freaked because I think he’s using Burn or something at first because all I see is backrows and Messenger of Peace, Threatening Roar, etc. I, eventually, see he’s using Inzektors so I capitalize and just annihilate him through standard water sequences. G2: He opens average like me but I hold a D.D. I sided for about 7-8 turns until he gets Hornet so I crow and win with a couple pushes.   Round 2: Mermails vs Bujins (Chad Buggs, a friend of mine from locals and neighborhood a few years ago) Game 1: He doesn’t open Yamato play so thank Neptune. I grind and am able to read a backrow and a bluff Bujincarnation he had. I played around it, not knowing he drew a second one. They were basically dead so I grind a long game 1 due to that. Game 2: I open trash and no side all game and he goes Bujin.mode and is on the verge of winning when I ask how much time is left. Thanks to Denny running his butt across the room….10 seconds….scoop phase into G3 fast so no tie. Game 3: I establish a solid Bahamut Shark opening with an irrelevant backrow. I push over the course of the next couple turns with Lindes, Pike, and a Tidal to put him at low life, which he can’t come back and deal enough damage in turns.   Round 3: Mermails vs 4-Axis Fire-Fist (Playing my friend Phong again, played him the last two regionals) Game 1: He doesn’t open spectacular so I push with a few weenie monsters to bait all his backrows like two Prisons and Mirror Force to win. Game 2: Tenki into Gorilla plus Dimensional Fissure+3 FD Backrows too strong. Game 3: We started playing and go into time. I push for some damage and bait his Wolfbark I read after he adds Bear with Gorilla in grave and no Tensu play going for him, knowing I have an answer for Bear. I win with Angineer and holding my two MSTs as much as possible for his real backrows.   Round 4: Mermails vs Mermails (Have to play my friend Johnathan, which we were supposed to play earlier/later due to some random bets Clay had going with him). I know his decklist but he doesn’t know mine. I know he runs Moulinglacia and hasn’t resolved it at all during the day so far and jokingly said that I’d be the first and only person he would draw and resolve Mouling against for the day. Game 1: We both open trash with Controller drawing into Undine within a couple turns. I have a strong board and need a MST to his last FD in case it’s BTH for my Tidal but I’m in a losing situation if I can’t get the Tidal to go through just because I opened 2 Turge with nothing else real. The following turn he rips a real card that he apparently didn’t want to tell me and nuts on me with….you guessed it…Moulinglacia discarding BOTH Turge missing a Marksman and Undine. Checked my next draw…MST…..shit. The Exciton play I tried to do miserably failed vs his board of Mouling, Leo, Draco+token, and Sphere. Long game. Game 2: Game 1 was long but I managed to secure this game and am in control for the most part, we go into time and I win just a few seconds after time is called. We are trying to figure out if we’re rolling for it or tying this early. I’m about to just side for G3 as some judge comes by and sees this. He forces us to Draw….worst part of the day so far because this judge was a dick the rest of the day, always around me and trying to scope me the following round too.   I’m 3-0-1 so far. Shit. The grind begins.   Worst part of the tournament begins…   Round 5: Mermails vs Mermails (Andrey Flynn aka Redlight) I would have to play my best friend where we both know our decks inside and out. However, a complication arose. I have made a promise to him a couple years ago that I would owe him a  match at regionals if we played each other again, regardless of my circumstance. I held up my end because he and I experienced some very unfortunate luck that last few events/regionals we attended. But, he didn’t have his invite yet like I did, so I had to give him the match. We chilled and goofed off a bit just getting some rust off for our next matches. Multiple people told me to drop at x-1-1 because I’d be playing all that bullshit decks and it’d be a waste of time knowing my luck of losing on the bubble or before it lately. I ignored them and played on.   At this point I’m x-1-1, so I’m playing serious and going G.O.A.T.mode the rest of the day.   Round 6: Mermails vs 3.5-Axis Fire-Fist Game 1: He opened the Tenki Leopard play but for some odd reason didn’t go through the Horse Prince sequence. Instead, he just set two backrows. I push through with a slow opening and Ocea+Linde attacks, until I draw some Marksmans and Teus to go for lethal. Game 2: He goes Banisher set 5. Well….challenge accepted. Trashy opening but I tried to bait anything with Turge attack. He BTH’s it. I hold onto my Tidal, Teus, Megalo for about two turns until I draw a Torrential Tribute, which I hold off on setting because I didn’t want to get blind spaced or Gyokou’d. I set up MST+Torrent set the following turn and he decides to get greedy and summon Gorrila. I proceed to go TT for game, wrecking any backrow that had an anus the following turn with my nuts.   Round 7: Mermails vs Mermails Chill kid. Game 1: He has Pike Dragoons but makes several questionable plays in a long, drawn out, game one. He, somehow, doesn’t know the chain links of Megalo+Marksman when he has a backrow I read as Sphere, which he didn’t chain until Megalo resolved. I’m shocked to assume it’s not a Sphere when he lets Megalo go without chaining but then tries to chain Sphere to Marksman resolution. It costs him the game. Game 2: He opens Pike Dragoons again but I am able to establish a strong board with Crow in hand for Tidal/Gunde if he should use either. I opt to put a bunch of damage on board and go Gaios with Shark+Trite in case he runs Dark Hole or can get through Gaios then Exciton me for game. Dweller was not the correct play, even in hindsight. I win that game swiftly.   Round 8: Mermails vs Madolche Ghostrick (Sweet & Spooky according to Jhub)*I’m not sure if he used the Ghostrick engine since I didn’t see it any of our games, I was merely told by people that’s what the Madolche player in top tables was using* Seemed like a cool cat right off the block with neat Mario mat. My lovely Naturia Hamjam Jackie McBoobs Bernal lost to him the previous round knocking her out of the tourney (after she lost to Andrey). She makes a remark where she lost to his Acid Golem over her Gaios. I think he’s using either 3.5 or Madolche. Game 1: Long game playing around his Hootcake plays and Angineer and massive backrow. I had to bait his Trap Stun, and the second one he got off Duality. I make a Leo play with Linde on board reading a Fiendish or Dprison. It was Dprison from what he showed me after the game, but Leo got in there and managed to buy me enough time to go Gaios for game with Call of the Haunted. Game 2: Similar to game 1, but he has opening Angineer. I opened very strong but defensive with Black Horn of Heaven, Warning, and a couple monsters. I know he’s not going to prematurely Stun so I just do the whole “I can’t stop your plays, sadly,” charade when get gets greedy for a massive push and gets punished after I make him think I have nothing after the Black Horn on Tiramissu. I warning a Dweller if I’m not mistaken, then go for Gaios, Draco, Tidal, too.strong.GOAT.plays.   Round 9: Mermails vs Lightsworns (Andrew Do-good player and friend of mine from locals, who I saw the previous round was using LS. He tied with Andrey a few rounds prior and they told me what happened, so I knew he used LS.). This was the only dice roll I won all day, and I felt bad because we played a coulple regionals ago and I beat him Game 1 in time in Dragon Mirror grind due to a savage draw on last turn of time. Game 1: He opens terrible and I know he has Recklesses and such, no real backrows other than Warning in his deck. He mills trash with Card Trooper, milling Honest, JD, and Charge. I just do what Water does and push so heavily through his weak opening that I win swiftly. Game 2: Similar to game 1, except he opens four backrows and like a Lumina, milling trash again with a second Lumina. He milled one irrelevant Wulf but I just destroy him with the nuts. I felt bad because he’s really cool and a solid player. He just wanted to top with an obscure deck like max rarity LS for the hell of it.   Round 10:   The Bubble Round….. Mermails vs 4-Axis Fire-Fist (Really nice guy and solid player) Game 1: He draws poorly with no Tenki plays so I pretty much just grind 2-3 turns until I just make a big push only to find out he opened draw into consecutive monsters with nothing short of trash. Game 2: Dimensional Fissure, Tenki, Gorilla, Three backrows. Scoop phase turn 4 after he goes blind space out of my 2 backrow to hit my Malevolent Catastrophe. I scooped without revealing it so he wouldn’t know I ran it. Game 3: We weren’t in time yet but were likely to get to it by like turn 4 or so. We exchange a couple water and fire bending techniques. He manages to go Avatar and topdeck MST for my Malevolent Catastrophe, which I wanted to hit his Tensu and other two irrelevant backs like Tenki and Tensen. He makes Cardinal to bounce my Trite and Shark. I have Gunde in hand from previous turn. I pray to the basedgod and draw my only rip of the day (given my track record, out of the 20+ cards I could have drawn, I’d normally draw the 1/5 bad topdecks). I drew another Linde and managed to do the Shark+Trite play again…lol…I guess I only needed one of each in the extra deck after all. He draws a backrow set, Cardinal to Defense. I use my last two waters banishing Gunde and whatever for Tidal in grave to try and bait it so I can push since we get time called. It turns out to be a Compulsory, which was irrelevant. I put damage on board and he draws another backrow. I rip a MST, which really wasn’t that much of a rip since I had Tidal and Trite in attack anyways and Shark in defense. I put all my faith into stopping YuGi Moutos mirror force with my Space of massive Mysticalness. It works. I win.   X-1-1 after 10 rounds. I’m nervous because Andrey was still x-1-1 and was a table behind me, yet I “lost” to him and he could make it in before me, making me be 9th….again…He was ahead of me in tables for the most part until that last round. Luckily, our amazing Head Judge, AJ Tachella, didn’t allow anyone to intentionally draw the last round. I had a chance. I cry in my Greatest of All-Time mode and pray more to the basedgod that I don’t get sodomized again by shit tiebreakers since Andrey was my loss and Jonathan dropped after he and I tied.   The G.O.A.T. makes it…as 8th place. Still, not too happy about it, but I can’t complain. I didn’t lose any matches in reality during the day since we’ll never know how game 3 would have happened the round I tied, and my match with Andrey will have to wait when neither of us needs to give the other the win. I loved this weekend.  Had some amazing memories from this regionals.   Pros: -Top 8 -iHop -Nima’s sister -Stayed with Nima for the weekend -Andrey also made Top 8 and got his invite. We haven’t topped together since he won with Gadgets several years ago, so that was cool. -Tommy made me less homophobic -Starbucks drive-through -Good testing for YCS Vegas -Captain America 2 -LARGEST NorCal Regionals -Another top -James lending me his Big Eye since mine was English, for good luck. -Making about $150 by the end of the day. -Getting deck profiles after the event. -Denny topping too, alongside Robert Gomez -Nima got his invite, he got 12th, his best performance ever.   Cons: -Not going undefeated or 1st in Swiss because of the draw and giving up a win. -Playing two friends back-to-back and it hindering my potential to top the regionals -Not having enough time to socialize -Nima’s sister ruining my $400 Spellground…the salt was real. -Not spending all day in the Bay Sunday due to a bunch of work I had to do at home. -Traffic -Lack of sleep and food. -Not having time to smash Tommy or Joey for money…again….   All in all, the weekend was fun and I hope to do it again. Onwards to Las Vegas. I’ll have my decklist, Andrey’s list, Nima’s list, Denny’s list during or after YCS Las Vegas. I’ll link the other video profiles of 1st, 3rd, and 4th place Geargia, Karakuri Geargia, and Evilswarms down below as soon as I make each one public on my Youtube page.   Hope to see you all at YCS Vegas, ARGCS Washington, Philly, and Detroit. :)
2. Hey I'm Alex, I played Mermails in the Des Moines Regional. This is my first regional top 8, and I got first. I had been playing mermails for quite awhile now, and I felt that the deck was still extremely powerful, in a meta of bujins, and gears; I felt marksman and heavy infantry could lead me to easy wins by picking apart their set ups. There were 258 people i believe. I went undefeated into Round 9 then lost; it was a good game I didn’t play as well as I should have but hey didn’t really matter anyway. Me beating him would have just ruined his trip down. Round 1 against Dylan playing Spellbooks   Game 1- I used all my bad luck up right here; I opened Genex Controller, Abyssleed, and Abyssturge, then sphere, mst, and breakthrough. I lose, because ya know. Game 2- I don’t open garbage; snowball advantage win without taking damage. Game 3- He summoned blue boy, searched cresent, used it for secrets master and tower apparently he got tower because he didn’t activate anymore green cards. I however had a spike the ball keeps rolling win with spike undine tidal.   Round 2 against Adam playing Bujins (he was a kid) (2-0)   Game 1- he doesnt get yamato, i got a teus and a water monster sometimes thats all it takes. Game 2- he does crane set 3, and I just spiked marksman, got undine then for my next turn i drew teus summoned undine dropped dragoons to get controller and marksman teus discards marksman and clears some trap and swing for a couple turns he cant do anything.   Round 3 against My Friend Colin playing Firefist (3-0)   Game 1- We played a great game and he got the first game Game 2- I opened teus and spirit, made Lavalval chain to stack dragoons and make angineer to defend him so he can send tidal to the grave, win quick Game 3- We get randomly deck checked, and Colin got a game-loss apparently he was missing a bear :/   Round 4 against Carlito playing Pure Geargia (4-0)   Game 1- Spike pitch marksman to get marksman kill armor, then next turn teus ditch tidal to get turge then turge to loop marksmans kill armor, game with tidal. Game 2- he had gear, armor and warning. Game 3- I make the best play of the whole day, he has presumably armor set dimensional fissure and 2 set cards I have spike, torrential, decree (on field), and aqua spirit (in hand) I was a card past him at this point and i needed to kill dimensional fissure so i could continue to play, so I summon aqua spirit play torrential chain decree, he looks confused I make exciton he cant respond with his blackhorn, so i blow him out, summon undine get Tidal and out grind him with my 2600 ronintoadin.   Round 5 against Michael playing Harpies (5-0)   Game 1- he upstarted me 3 times and the end of the game i was at 10500, every play he made i matched with more card advantage because mermails. game 2- see game 1   Round 6 against Ernest playing Inzectors (6-0)   game 1- open controller, make leo thinking its amazing against his deck he does his big push then puts gigamantis and a zektcalibur on some lady bug and crushed; my leo :( game 2- I devested him with card advantage. game 3- In time with 500 life points up i make exciton to kill his dragonfly and centipede cause he played waboku when I marksman'd it. Win cause he doesnt have any plays.   Round 7 against Jared playing Spellbooks he got 5th (7-0)   He was a good player with bad luck at least against me.   game 1- he bricks game 2- he doesnt but it doesnt matter.   Round 8 against Matt playing Harpies (8-0)   game 1- he does field spell to blow up triple rota, and i summon spike which did like the same thing, i won with Spike undine tidal and teus first then next gaios and controller for game. breakthrough skill goes hard. game 2- he only opens a dancer and i drew sphere and dragoons, when he trys to pop sphere i get spike and pitch dragoons getting infantry and undine, draw turge summon undine get tidal, attack with spike undine and tidal next turn I summon turge and he scoops   Round 9 against Alec playing Pure Geargia (8-1) 3 good games that send us into time, at least he otk’d me game 3 to so i didnt lose to end of round procedure   Pros Topping and 1st place at a regional. A first for me. Really chill opponents all day Playing my favorite deck Only drawing controller twice the whole day Only drawing lead Getting drunk with friends after Winning almost all the rolls No challenging Bujin matches Cons They didn’t have the prize support, so the mat and deckboxes are getting mailed to us.
3. Friday: after 3 midterms and an interview this week, I hadn't been able to test as much as I'd like.  I go down around 6 to meet with some friends and playtest a little.  I realise that plus one fire fists aren't so scary because of how their openings are almost always following a single pattern, and I also end up losing some games to a friend playing 3 axis due to the horse prince opening.  At this point I decide to main deck double maxx "C".  I decide to be boring and head back to sleep around 10ish, so that I'm not completely dead on saturday. Saturday: I get up at five, and eat cereal in the hall to avoid waking my roommates.  I then meet up with the people I was playtesting with and get a ride to regionals with them.  We drive inside an empty parking structure without paying, and the guy tells us we're fine as he can't kick us out or something as it was closed.  So we each save having to put in 5 dollars for parking, and head inside to register. We get inside at approximately 6:40, and I'm surprised to see how few people there are.  We get in line, and then the judge allows us around the corner and there's two more lines, which was pretty well played (give the players hope).  People start trading in the line, and I lok at the very shiny excitons and 101s and realise I'd rather be able to eat, so I just end up buying a second diamond dire (similar logic for the second dweller, I have to get textbooks for next quarter).   About 2 hours later, we're in, and I go get some pink sleeves (which admittedly grew on me). Decklist:

Round 1: Harpies Table 270ish Game 1: Staying true to the guide on 'how to write a dgz tournament report', I end up getting paired with one of my friends from my university.  I lose the die roll and he uses channeler to pitch for harpie's pet dragon.  I chain maxx "C" and he sets 3 and passes.  I then kill channeler with linde and set a breakthrough and sphere.  Breakthrough stuns his next play and I win from there. Game 2: He opens a slow hand and summons something (forget what) and sets two.  I pike marksman and summon spirit, attacking whatever he had, and he goes magical hats.  Mainphase two I make a dweller and stop the hysteric sign from resolving.  I pass, and he has four cards in hand.  He plays hunting ground and summons dancer, targeting my sphere.  He then goes for a dweller play, but I have the veiler for his channeler and win. 1-0 Round 2: Racoons Table 121 Game 1: He pulls out a spellground classic mat and we start talking.  I find out he works at Frank and Sons and remembering the thread on 'free information', I assume he's playing mermails (light blue sleeves) after he sets a monster and sets two spell / traps.  I set a linde and set two (I think a reckless and a squall?).  He flips a racoon, and starts summoning these bunny things that pop stuff while I'm in shocked.  I eventually start beating him down with a gaios, but then lose to an 8900 junk warrior.  Damn. Game 2: I open double reckless (that 6%).  He sets a racoon, plays dimensional fissure, and sets 2, but I have the double mst and proceed go shark angineer dracossack or something. Game 3: He sets like racoons seem to tend to, and I set a linde, a torrential, and a reckless.  He end phase dust tornados the torrential which was a little unfortunate, and then goes off.  By now though I understand a little better how racoons work, and racoons going off is a bit less scary than other tier 1 decks going off, so I survive and proceed to end phase pop his backrow and sit on dracossack to win. 2-0 Round 3: Noble Knights Table 22 Game 1: He goes first, and makes the Artorigus thing, equipped with the 1000 attack, 500 lp, nontargeting, and non destruction equips.  I set a linde and a reckless and pass.  He can't really do much to kill me, so I just stall until I make a diamond dire to pop the non-targeting arms, and go into big eye for the win.   Game 2: He summons card car, I veiler, and he sets two.  I draw for turn and summon a linde to kill card car.  The next couple turns are poking and passing.  Eventually he summons a medraut and combos into Artorigus.  However, because of the passing I'm able to end phase pike turge marks and kill the warning he set that turn, and next turn I overlay into diamond dire, pop the nontargeting equip again, and big eye once more. 3-0 Round 4: Geargia (Pure) Table 9 Game 1: He goes first, Arsenals for armor which I maxx "C", and set 3 and passes.  I draw for turn and look at a pretty dead hand featuring double turge and ocea.  I consider scooping to hide what deck I'm playing, but end up trying to grind it out and set a linde and reckless.  He ends up overwhelming me by playing protect the gigant. Game 2: I go first and open a sphere and a full house.  I set both and pass, and he sets 3 backrow and asks me if we can enter end phase.  I say yes, considering both that he may be holding the mst, as well as the fact that I have the full house set (I had a marks in hand though).  I'm not sure if this was the incorrect play, but I end up losing as instead of being able to resolve a full house he had opened double geargia gear, and so eventually I'm forced to end phase sphere (he didn't have mst).  The gears provide too much advantage though and I eventually lose once more. 3-1 Round 5: Fire Fist Table 41 Game 1: I don't really remember this, but I believe that I end up torrentialing a bear summoned by wolfbark, he lances wolfbark, which I end up killing next turn.  Since he's never able to start the tenki cycling I just end up winning. Game 2: He dimensional fissures and sets 4.  I open reckless full house, and just go plus three in his standby phase, and he ends up scooping shortly after. 4-1 Round 6: Fire King Table 46 Game 1: I was pretty surprised to see him summong a barong, after which he sets two and passes.  I think he has torrential at this point, and pike marks but don't hit it.  I try to go for a dweller, which ends up going through surprisingly enough.  I kill barong, end, and he onslaughts to kill dweller.  I start to sit on a gaios and start killing his garunix by battle, but eventually he specials summons one and chains circle to kill gaios.  At this point however I already have tidal in grave and a decent hand set up, so I'm just able to summon diamond dire, pop the backrow, and make another gaios.  He can't come back at this point. Game 2: He sets 1 and passes.  I make angineer dweller, and eventually end up resolving a squall for game about 4 turns in. 5-1 Round 7: Fire Fist Table 39 Game 1: We get deck checked, and have a ten minute time extension.  He tenkis for bear, and sets 3.  I set the linde, pass, and start the pike turge marks loops, and while I was happy to have been able to afford food, I see why Exciton is so expensive -- diamond dire isn't as good, sadly.  Fair enough though, I agreed to it by not paying for one.  I draw it out for a bit with angineer blocking his tiger king and bear, but his backrow ends up stopping me when I try to push. Game 2: A normal game until about 2 turns in, in which I end up resolving a full house.  It makes me a bit sad that there are so many auto win cards, but that's yugioh and I'll take what I can get. Game 3: We're approaching time as we go into game three, so I try to take as little damage as possible.  It doesn't really work out though, and I end up losing in time.  Fair enough though, as I won a match in time also, so it balances out. 5-2 Round 8: Mermail Table 41(?) Game 1: He sat next to me for the last round, so I know what he's playing.  He sets one backrow and a linde, and I open absolutely savagely, with teus spirit dragoons and squall.  I end up going first turn dweller angineer, and proceed to next turn resolve the squall and grab pike turge and teus to dump tidal, and make and end up with a dweller, angineer, chain, and gaios.  He dark holes, but I chain dweller and angineer the gaios, so he can't come back. Game 2: We grind back and forth for a bit, both of us opening a bit slow (he showed me his hand after, triple linde).  I have the maxx "C" and stop him from going off, and then he maxx "C"'s me, so it becomes a bit of trading.  We eventually go into time, where I have a gaios, a dweller, and a spent angineer.  He has the spirt and makes bahamut shark to do enough damage over dweller to tie the game, but asks the judge if he can top with x-2-1.  The judge tells him only if he has good tie breakers, and he tells me he's not confident in his tie breakers and has his invite already anyways.  He decides to drop and go eat with his friends, but gives me the win and tells me to top for him.  If you're on here, thanks man. 6-2 Round 9: Fire King Table 39ish(?) Game 1: Another fire king?  He tells me he has an easy fire fist match up, which I can't blame him for.  I just win through standard dweller angineer plays, and eventually game him with tidal. Game 2: I get the honor of looking at a superbly bricked hand, with double squall, teus, leed, and a turge.  I pass, and he summons bear and sets 5.  The people next to me look over and laugh and tell me how sympathetic they feel for me.  I draw for turn, and just like in my japanese cartoons my prayers are answered / I drew the tidal.  I set both squall and pass.  He flips something (forget what) to free a s/t zone, and attacks with bear, adding wolfbark from tenki.  He passes to me and I flip one squall, making a diamond dire to pop a backrow and go into a gaios (so that I could bait removal to main phase two make a dracossack with the tidal and a 2nd squall).  He mirror forces the gaios, but ends up bottomlessing the draco.  I summon tidal to force shark and end, but can't come back from that. Game 3: We're getting close to time once more, and eventually I have about two cards in hand and one backrow(?).  He has a garunix and one card in hand.  I'm at 7400 though, and he's at 2400, so I just block with tidal until turns expire. 7-2 Round 10: Evilswarm Table 37 Game 1: I open well, with a teus leed pike letting me first turn pitch a card from leed and end with a dracossack (I pitched a bottomless and assume fire fist or geargia).  He then summons castor, heliotrope, and kills the tokens to mp2 101 the dracossack.  He then sets the rest of his hand, but I'm able to just outgrind him with sphere pike turge marks in the end phase into diamond dire pop facedown.   Game 2: We both open slow (he opened double kerky), so he summons a kerkyion and passes.  At this point I'm feeling good about my chances, but he stops my attempt to kill kerk and next turn makes an ophion, adding infection.  However, throughout both games we've been playing slowly, and we end up going into time.   On the final turn, I breakthrough his ophion and make a field of double teus, pike, turge, and tidal.  However, I couldn't big eye or draco as I wouldn't do enough damage that way, and I'd decided that food was more important than a shiny 101, so I have to attack with everything and hope he doesn't have the dress for when ophion attacks over tidal.  He ends up having it, and ties the game. 7-2-1 I wait for the pairings, and find out I have good tie breakers and still topped.  I'm grateful for threads like the free information concept though, as it may have been a placebo but I didn't take my tokens out until after he knew what I was playing, cleared my calculator -- extremely obvious things to someone who knows of them, but ones that I hadn't really considered before coming here.
4. Trite.dek

I started playing mermails this format a while ago. I went through some of older pages and saw what Evan Vargas posted about the idea of a hardcore grind / control version of mermails that mostly focused on shark + trite. He mentioned reducing the level 7 aspect of the deck to a minimum among other things. I had all those things in mind when I decided to try out a list like this. Basically what I want to do is set up shark + trite turn one as consistently as I can and ride that to victory. If they are able to clear the shark + trite field once, you can just set it up again the following turn.   I still decided to play the lone ocea and megalo because they give the deck something that separates it from other grind based decks and that is: turn 1 autowin fields like bahamut shark + trite + angineer or lavalval chain + dracossack / abyssgaios.     Monsters 23: 3 Aqua Spirit 3 Atlantean Marksman 3 Mermail Abyssgunde 3 Mermail Abysslinde 3 Mermail Abyssteus 3 Mermail Abysspike 1 Mermail Abyssturge 1 Mermail Abyssocea 1 Mermail Abyssmegalo 1 Atlantean Dragoons 1 Tidal, Dragon of Waterfalls   Spells 5: 3 Upstart goblin 1 Book of Moon 1 Dark Hole   Traps 12: 3 Reckless Greed 3 Abyss-sphere 1 Solemn Warning 1 Compulsory Evacuation Device 1 Torrential Tribute 1 Abyss-squall   Sidedeck: 2 D.D. Crow 3 Maxx "C" 3 Mystical Space Typhoon 1 Twister 2 DNA Surgery 2 Mind Crush 2 Overworked   Extra Deck: 2 Bahamut Shark 3 Mermail Abysstrite 1 Mechquipped Angineer 1 Leviair the Sea Dragon 1 Wind-up Zenmaines 1 Abyss Dweller 1 Silent Honor Ark 1 Diamond Dire Wolf 1 Lavalval Chain 1 Mermail Abyssgaios 1 Big Eye 1 Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack       Some of the not so orthodox choices aside from shark + trite stuff: 0 mst - The one thing I'm most afraid of when I play mermails happens to be a simplified field. Mst isn't a combo piece and I feel that mermails have the tools to grind through backrow especially this variant. Still side them for the continuous s/t hate 0 Infantry - Most people have realized by now that this card is really not that great. You don't want to see it t1 if you go first and with all the decks either playing CCD t1 or setting stuff t1, you won't like it going second either. 0 leed - I don't want to ever draw that card and I feel that its utility as a beat stick doesn't follow through with what my main strategy is. 3 Aqua spirit - It's a combo piece that doesn't require a normal summon. I want to open up turn one with either teus or aqua spirit so I can get the ball rolling. If I open both and they don't have an answer, the game is usually over. Playing double shark ensures that I don't mind opening multiple t1 or drawing into them later on. 1 Megalo - Needing two discards is pretty pricey and it doesn't really play into my main strategy which is control and advantage through rank 4s. I still think that he ended up tying several loose ends in the deck to warrant the spot. I still wanted a power card off of my dragoons search. Without leed I needed a big body to special summon off a sphere'ed linde or a dead trite. 1 Ocea - As I mentioned above, this card enables some ridiculous t1 fields and if you draw it, just treat it as the 4th linde. 1 Abyss-Squall - I know a lot of people don't like this card because it requires set-up and what not. There are a couple reasons for why I'm playing this: I cut some other inconsistent power cards like megalo and I felt like I needed more power plays. Usually I bring back two level 4s and a level 7, make lavalval chain to dump tidal, SS tidal, make a rank 7. Making another shark and letting the linde die is also pretty solid It's an out to abyss dweller. Having a power play that does not require you to activate effects in the graveyard is absolutely huge. The usual shark + trite board forces your opponent to use a lot of resources to seize control before they can dweller you which means whatever you make will usually make it out alive to clear the dweller and re-seize control. Reckless Greed - This card is just absolutely disgusting. It digs out the combo pieces you can't search and puts you way ahead in tempo. Drawing two of these is usually game over for your opponent and it has some degenerate interactions with lavalval chain. Stack a dragoons / megalo / teus / whatever monster, flip reckless enjoy your rota + pot of greed combo. I almost feel bad when I pull this off, almost. Backrow - Solemn, CED, bottomless, and torrential felt fairly standard since they work reasonably well against all the decks. Book of Moon - The card isn't particularly powerful, but it's very flexible and with the popularity of trap stun I thought it was a must for those games you know they're saving up for a trap stun push. PWWB - I had one spot left and I wanted something to deal with established fields t1. Although I believe it's the weakest of discard traps, I was looking for flexibility, not strength for this spot. I had a lot of fun both building the deck and playtesting it. I could go back and shape up the side deck and extra deck as I feel I could improve on both of those.
5.   Here's the list I've been trying at locals, and I've been doing fairly well with it.   Megalo: I run triple Megalo because without Tidal, I like three to facilitate Rank 7 plays. I like to see it more than I used to. Turge: Turge allows for recycling of the one Deep Sea Diva as well as your Infantries and can allow some very unfair things if combo'd with Gunde and a Pike in the graveyard. Having an infantry in the graveyard with this play is icing on the cake. Deep Sea Diva: Despite its limitation on the banlist, it can still be searched by your one Dragoons, and allows instant access to Armades for Bujins, Geargia, and GK's, Armored Kappa to pop face up threats, or even combined with an Atlantean, Black Rose Dragon. Aqua Spirit and Abyssocea: I run two Aqua Spirits and Ocea in the main for the broken Bahamut Angineer play. If you don't draw that well, Ocea allows for an opening like Zenmaines and Linde which is very good. As the very least, Ocea can tutor Linde from the deck with a less-than-optimal hand. Creature Swap: This card is the absolute stones in this deck. If you don't like this card, you've never seen the look on somebody's face when you give them a Linde and take their bigger monster (If it's Crimson Blader, extra lulz). I side a second one for Bujin and decks that make Crimson Blader. Mystical Space Typhoon: I feel like this card is necessary at 3 now, alongside three Marksman (great against Geargia and GK's). Space alone is great for Fire Fists, (gotta hit that Tenki) and great against Spellbooks and GK's for their field spell. Backrow is what holds this deck back from putting well over game on board each turn. Being able to put pressure on board along with getting rid of problem backrow (or forcing premature use of it) is what I think this deck does better than any other one. Maining 3 to hit things like Decree, Soul Drain, D-Fissure, and Macro lurking in random rogue/anti-meta decks is good as well. I side 3 Dust Tornado for anything I suspect may side those 4 cards, because the latter three simply prevent you from playing Yugioh. Dark Hole: I think Dark Hole is good again. With the relative lack of Dragon Rulers in the meta, your field is much more important and less... temporary? Dark Hole is once again a game changing card that I think should come out of the side deck. Abyss-Squall: [TESTING] Not quite sure about this card. It's a +2 if used optimally, which is late game. It's a massive momentum shift that lets you bring out any Xyz from your extra deck (as well as getting a linde effect off, OR coupled with a normal summon, a second Xyz) but it only obviously works late game. It is a dead draw early game and requires a bit of setup. I play one copy because it's really good, and I'm testing it atm. Traps: I play the four one-of traps Torrential Tribute, Mirror Force, Bottomless Trap Hole, and Solemn Warning to help back up the powerful boards this deck produces and to deal with threats the opponent places on board. I opted not to use Compulsory Evacuation Device because of the lack of things to return in bad situations. Yamato? Bear? Megalo or Teus? Armor? It's still a very good out to Extra Deck cards and it is of course chainable to opponent's destruction effects so I would like some input on the use of Compulsory.  Extra Deck: Should be pretty standard, I play only Armades as my level 5 because the primary reason to play that OR Catastor is Yamato, and Armades is simply better for that. Other monster threats can be dealt with with Kappa which provides more synergy. Black Rose is nuts in the deck, all you need is Diva and an Atlantean. Side Deck: Self explanatory. Side third Infantry for Evilswarms. Encore for Evilswarms, Constellars, and Dragon Rulers (or anything else that makes Felgrand). Overworked for Fire Fists, Inzektors, and maybe Noble Knights. Second Creature Swap for Noble Knights and Bujins. DNA Surgery for Bujins and Prophecy. Imperial Iron Wall for Prophecy, Dragon Rulers, and maybe Bujins. And finally, Dust Tornado for super backrow heavy decks, as well as things suspected to main/sideboard any of the floodgate "can't play Yugioh" cards.   Things to try: (are these any good?) Fishborg Archer, Divine Wrath, Lack of Aqua Spirit/Ocea, Abyssdine, Dragon Ice, Genex Engine, Abyss-Squall (currently in) Any comments or suggestions are welcome, this is a new build I'm testing and I want input and criticism. I think this deck has a lot of potential this format, despite the hits on the F/L list. Reason being is because the floodgate cards to stop it are all limited, and it has one of the most powerful removal engines in the game, as well as pumps out Rank 4's and 7's, and as a very powerful boss monster for each of those types. (Bahamut Shark and Mermail Abyssgaios). Thanks guys!
6. YCS New Jersey 2013 top8

I dont really get to go to many YCSes/big events (this is my 8th) due to school and other stuff so a YCS in NJ is pretty much as close as its gonna get. That monday i finally decide to switch from fire fist to mermails. As well, I had done with fire fist, with the release of HA07, I felt that there were too many matchups that I didn't feel confident enough to run fires for a full 11 rounds. I play tested everything from 40 to 54 cards and realized that heavy storm is way too good a card and that I wanted to draw it as any games as possible. So I was like screw the undine-mono mix, I’m gonna play straight mono.    I wake up friday morning after 3 hours of sleep to go take 2nd to last final ever at 9:30. Public transportation has other plans and I get there half an hour late. Thankfully test was insanely easy and I get out of there in half an hour, leaving before half the class is even done. I get back home to find out my ride and the people we're going with are already outside, so I get in grab my bag and we hit the road.   We get to the convention center, do some trading and pre-reg. After pre-reging, our team ended up setting up an iron man against a bunch of regular ycs toppers; so we plan to meet up in the lobby of our hotel (embassy suites) at 7:30 and play there. I figured this would be a good way to playtest for the event as we would be playing against players way better than what we’d play during the swiss rounds. The first guy on our team ends up sweeping, so I don’t even get to play( so much for testing). He is playing a 46 card mono-undine hybrid and his hands are making every game look insanely easy, I’m almost tempted to switch but end up sticking to straight mono.   We go out to outback to eat and get to the hotel around 1 or so. Thankfully my room had pretty much every deck we’d be likely to play against, so I get some valuable testing and finalize my build. I cut squall and add a 2 torrentials to make my deck 41.(I don’t even know why I wasn’t running it before, it’s my favorite card and it would give me an edge since most people just assume mono doesn’t run TT.) I sleeve up, write my list and end up going to sleep at around 4. Here’s my list:   1 mermail abyssleed 3 memermail megaloabyss 3 mermail abyssteus 3 Atlantean Dragoons 3 Mermail Abysspike 3 Mermail Abysslinde 2 Mermail Abyssgunde 3 Atlantean Marksman 3 Deep sea Diva 2 Atlantean heavy infantry 1 moulinglacia the elemental lord   1 Heavy storm 1 Dark hole 1 pot of avarice 1 monster reborn 3 Mystical space typhoon   2 fiendish chain 2 torrential tribute 3 abyssphere   1 tg hyper librarian 1 Gungnir Dragon of the ice barrier 1 Black rose dragon 1 Dewloren Tiger King of the ice barrier 1 Ally of justice catastor 1 Armory Arm 1 temtempo 1 Mermail Abyssgaios 1 Big Eye 1 Bahamut Shark 1 Abyss Dweller 1 Leviathan Dragon 1 Mermail Abysstrike 1 Wind Up Zenmaines 1 Gachi Gachi   2 Snowman Eater 2 Maxx c 2 swift scarecrow 2 soul taker 3 dust tornado 2 mirror force 2 mind crush   Some different choices and changes I would make: Moulinglacia can win games on its own and was pretty much never dead for me. Swift scarecrow was mainly due to me being scared shitless of playing against hieratics; I hated it most of day 1 but it’s the reason I made it to top 8. The same teammate that swept convinced me to side mind crushes for the mirror since he had been playing the deck longer than me, it was terrible and I hated it but luckily I didn’t draw it much. Mirror didn’t come in often but it was really clutch when it did I wish I had sided aqua spirits and the 3rd maxx c.   I remember some rounds more than others.   Round 1 vs Nicholas (fire fist , won roll) G1: I believe he says something to let me think he’s playing water. I open pike dragoons, reborn dragoons make dweller pass. He summons rabbit, goes into werewolfs attacks my dweller I detach for dragoons to search, he doesn’t play anything in damage step his werewolf dies lol. I heavy otk him next turn. G2: dfissure and laggia pretty early seals the game for him. G3: I open slow so I diva gachi set dust. He msts, summons tour guide makes temtempo and detaches and activates d fissure. A few turns later I’m able to discard marksman and infantry to his temtempo 1 backrow field, he flips warning and I lose from there.   0-1 from game 1, I assumed I would just have bad tiebreakers and assumed I would need to go x-1 to top. I listen to some music to relax and move on   Round 2 vs Matthew( fire fist) won roll   I don’t remember much from this round at all but I win 2-0 fairly easily.   1-1   Round 3 vs Rob(mermails) lose roll G1: He goes pike dragoons and forgets to search for dragoons lol but I remind him. I win resolving a +1 heavy and making a dweller. G2: I’m pretty sure at some point in this game he just forgets to draw for his turn, I win easily.   2-1   Round 4 vs Gustin (mermails) won roll G1: he makes a push I torrent, I diva get infantry summon marksman make armory arm, attack and pass with dweller, he cant recover. G2: He doesn’t know bahamut shark can attack and then use its effect and calls a judge. He squalls into big eye to deal with my bahamut trite field. I fiendish the big eye and after he brings out leed en phase I torrent and get back linde. He’s down too many cards and I win.   3-1   Round 5 vs David (perfect herald) lost roll G1: he makes perfect herald early and I slowly chip away at his fairy count. He summons hyperion destroys my set mst and attacks, he has 1 card hand at this point which I know to be a spell. I sphere into linde into pike dragoons and search Moulin. I Moulin swing over hyperion and pass. He draws and passes. I draw pike, summon it make dweller and attack over herald, he cant recover G2: I draw leed for the second time all day at this point( this will be relevant later on day 2). Turns out leed wasn’t bad in this situation I’m able to set chain links to resolve infantry and dragoons.I Moulin his 2 card hand and proceed to win shortly after.   4-1   Round 6 (sams) win roll He is from NY and apparently knows me and my brother but Idk him. G1: One of the strangest games of yugioh I’ve ever played. I open megalo infantry  marksman heavy chain and something else. I set chain and pass. He sets 1 and pass. I draw set sphere and pass, he sets another and passes. I heavy chain sphere, linde into megalo summon infantry and marksman tribute infantry and attack for game. Here’s the strange part, here he decides to show me his hand: Heavy storm, kageki, kagemusha, gateway, united. I am utterly baffled, thank God and move to game 2. G2: he opens Kizan fissure, 1 backrow. I set linde set dust. He attacks I chain dust on fissure but he chains macro. I draw snowman and set it. He sets 2 more and passes. I flip snowman, summon diva and black rose his field. I discard Megalo gunde leed and he just scoops. This round took like 10 mins.   5-1   Round 7 vs Norman ( firefist) lost roll I don’t remember much about this round besides game 3. G3: He tenkis for bear attacks and doesn’t search and claims he forgets, I end phase mst a tenki and conclude he drew all 3. At this point I decide its time to get aggressive and consider my options for like 30 secs. I get a slowplay warning g3 with 15 mins left in the round… I end up making gaios that turn and sealing it   6-1   Round 8 vs Sandro (lavals) lost roll I’m pretty surprised to be playing lavals at this point and I’m happy to side scarecrow for the first time. G1: he plays the card that sets up his grave and summons card car. I summon diva, he chains maxx c, I get infantry summon marksman. I attack and pass with gachi, marksman and dragoons. He summons firedog kills marksman and summons a 2100 laval guy(idk its name), he forgets about gcahi and crashes into dragoons. I game him next turn. G2: Rekindling into quasar to my 7 card hand with scarecrow L. G3: He makes a rekindling push and doesn’t otk me, I dark hole and win the game with attacks from pike and linde.   7-1   Round 9 vs Brian (macro rabbit) lost roll He’s from the tri-state area and I’ve seen him around before. G1: He opens sabersaurus set 5. No macro so I set linde and pass. Here he decides to attack my set which lets me pike dragons into megalo marksman. I discard 2 marksmen for megalo, destroy solemn J and he chains lance. I summon diva and get marksman make dewloren which he is forced to bottomless.I tribute marksman for megalo and leave him with 1 backrow and I set sphere. He draws rabbit makes dolkka and runs over megalo with the help of lance and sets 1. I endphase get leed and it successfully runs over dolkka (guessing he forgot). I avarice next turn and just win. G2: he opens rabbit laggia, macro and 3 other sets. I set snowman dust, sphere and mirror. He spaces my dust end phase. Here he gets greedy summons guaiba atks into snowman and I kill laggia. I eventually deal with his second laggia and solemn judgment thanks to soul taker and 2 mirror forces. After that I just attack with a bunch of dragoons since at this point I have a teus and 3 of them. They eventually get there and I win.   8-1   I finish day1 28th place as the higest(lowest depending on how you look at it) x-1 so I decide that  I have to win both to top. Only me and a friend staying with us make day2. We hang out with a few friends order some pizza and I go to sleep again at like 4 (who needs sleep anyway?)   Round 10 vs Tyree tinsley Good guy Tyree gives me the win as he’s undefeated and guaranteed to top. We decide to play for fun anyway but turns out he forgot his deck in his hotel room lol. Better now than in the later rounds I guess.   Round 11 vs Donnel (evilswarm) won roll It sucks having to play someone I know that goes to my locals but at the same time, he’s never beaten me so I’m pretty confident. G1: he tries to otk with dark armed but is short, I’m able to dark hole make a gungnir to destroy his backrow discarding gunde, I get back leed attack for 52 and make gaios. He draws and scoops. G2: I kill ophion and otk him on my 2nd turn. He ends up topping anyway.   I top 8th place as the last x-1.   I really wanted to make it past top32 this time, having lost there at both Philly and Nats last year and I find out I’m paired up against Simon He.   Top 32 vs Simon He(mermails) won roll   G1 I set fiendish chain and TT and pass. He sets 1 and pass. I go pike leed search gunde and attack for 16. He draws goes teus discarding marksman and targets my fiendish, I chain it he thinks for a while, activates mst and searches for abysspike. Because he thought about it for so long and discards megalo for pike when he could have searched something better with teus, its obvious he has mind control. I let him use the mind control, he attacks, makes dweller and I torrential everything there, he sets 1. I draw, mst his set discard megalo for teus to search for gunde, discard gunde for pike getting megalo, tributr pike and attack for game. G2: I get destroyed and I get to experience why I hated mind crush in the first place. It was completely awful this game but I would have lost anyway. He wins this game and none of us have resolved a dragoons yet. G3: I draw really well here with megalo dragoons and diva with a scarecrow so I’m safe. I set 2 and pass. He hevies and sets 1. I summon diva get marksman, attack for 3400 and bounce marksman to hand with dewloren. He dark holes and passes. I draw Moulinglacia for turn and discard dragoons and marksman for megalo. He debunks and I search diva, I summon moulinglacia than diva and attack for game.   Finally broke top 32.   Top 16: http://www.konami.com/yugioh/blog/?p=13806 I get the feature match here so you guys can read about it. I decided that Moulin was really good against and didn’t side it out even though I knew he was boarding in  fissures. I actually end up setting up perfectly for that last turn but I drew diva to make armory for game. I knew him from locals and this was his first YCS congrats to him.   Top 8 vs Galo(fire fist) lose die roll A lot of things went really wrong for me this match but I don’t like using stuff like that as an excuse, he was a good player and congrats to him. G1: I always put my 5 cards down on the mat and look at them 1 by 1 for the record. First card I see abyssleed( this isn’t starting well). He makes dwellers with protection I don’t draw heavy so I lose. We get midround deckchecked( everything is in order) G2: 6th card leed I open pike leed into teus gunde(searching linde) and open with gaios and a discard. He sets 2, I attack he fieindish chains, I set a monster knowing he would think that its linde. Sure enough he goes dfissure, tenki into bear pops gaios and attacks snowman. He summons werewolf and I mirror it. I summon marksman and win the game from ensuing attacks. G3: first card leed again L. I pike leed turn 2 and search gunde. He tenkis into bear and I mirror the attack. He summons another bear and attacks and tenkis for tengu. I summon diva activate effect and chain sphere to avoid bottomless, I black rose the field and I’m in a great spot(or so I thought). I summon megalo discarding gunde and something else get back leed and attack for 51. I make gaios and set  sphere. He has 3 in hand including tengu. He draws dark hole for his turn and destroys gaios, summons bear and I immediately know he has the mst to pretty much end the game.   Painful way to end the streak after losing round 1 but it happens.   Props: Finally breaking top 32 Topping 3 out of my last 4 events Fun Ycs overall Good friends for lending me all these cards   Slops: No one else on my team doing well Prize support is god awful Tachyon makes jersey pretty much irrelevant Judge who gave me a slow play warning for no reason     Probably the funniest  top 8 picture ever uploaded.

9. Water.dek (Mono Mermail)

OK So before senior Resident of DGZ and Yugioh Community (Billy Brake) took This "MON-MERMAIL" to YCS Miami and Topped My Build Ws the Undine One with a Teched Teus and Gunde. But, Now After Testing "MON-MERMAIL" Obviously better. But I don't like his list and I believe that you should Play what your comfortable with and how you play you should build the deck. 10. Suiting Up for YCS Miami

I'll be running in a series of tournaments going into YCS Miami, and I'll be posting those reports along with them. My pick has been Mermails, because it seems like the deck has a terrible match up against FF, which I expect to see a lot of, and after playing some games with Mermails, they seem like a better fit for the way that I like to play. At any rate, I played in my first tournament with the deck yesterday off of an ok amount of testing. To start with, here is the list I took into the tournament yesterday:     Main Deck 42 3 Genex Undine 3 Mermail Abyssmegalo 3 Atlantean Dragoons 3 Atlantean Marksman 3 Deep Sea Diva 3 Atlantean Infantry 2 Mermail Abyssline 2 Mermail Abysspike 2 Genex Controller 1 Gorz, the Emissary of Drkness 1 Moulinglacia the Water Elemental Lord 3 Salvage 2 Mystical Space Typhoon 1 Heavy Storm 1 Allure of Darknes 1 Monster Reborn 1 Pot of Avarice 1 Dark Hole 2 Raigeki Break 2 Torrential Tribute 3 Abyssphere   Extra Deck 15 1 Scrap Dragon 1 Armory Arm 1 Ally of Justice Catastor 1 T.G. Hyper Librarian 1 Dewloren Tiger King of the Ice Barrier 1 Bahamut Shark 1 Black Rose Dragon 1 Mist Wurm 1 Number 17: Leviathan Dragon 1 Gachi Gachi Gantetsu 1 Daigusto Phoenix 1 Number 11: Big Eye 1 Abyss Dweller   Side Deck 15 1 Mystical Space Typhoon 2 Soul Taker 2 Maxx "C" 2 Tragoedia 2 Dust Tornado 2 Fiendish Chain 2 Mind Crush 2 Deck Devastation Virus   I ended up with 42 after adding the 3rd Sphere and I haven't really looked back. There was just one time yesterday I opened with Double Controller, and I could have probably still taken the match had I been more comfortable with Double Controller plays.    The matchups I had were:   Dark World - Won the Match, Lost the Roll (It was a build that used subpar cards and main decked Royal Decree. He stole a game from me by playing A Cheerful Coffin and dumping Goldd/ Beiige to bounce for 2 more Grapha).   TG w/ Bear Engine - Lost the Match, Lost the Roll (I thought I was playing TG until I saw the Bear coming down. That really threw me for a loop g1, since I hadn't seen anything like this before. g2 was pretty much a blowout, and g3 was a nail biter. There was a huge momentum shift when he resolved Corn over my Gachi. I regained control of the match, just for him to top deck a Bear and take the game from there).   Six Samurai - Won the Match, Lost the Roll (Pretty much a standard Six Samurai match. He blows his whole hand g1 w/o even resolving a Shien, so he pays for it. g2, he gets his Shien set up going and I didn't have anything to counter Shien + Matagama. g3, he resolves XYZ Six Samurai + Invoker w/ 2 set and Fissure f/u. I already have a sphere set, so I Dark Hole first to see if he has Matagama set, and he does. From there, I flip sphere for Pike, Make BRD, and dump Megalo, pitching 2 Dragoons).   Water - Won the Match, Won the Roll (This wasn't one of the better mirrors I played against, and he really wasn't paying attention to the match for the most part. Won both games).   Agents - Lost the Match, Lost the Roll (We were going to have a good match, since we were both testing for YCS Miami. Here is where I open the double Controller. I probably could have gotten out of it, but me not paying attention to the fact that he was running trapless Agent after I lock my Gorz out w/ MST cost me g1. g2, I don't remember all of the cards I sided in, but apparently I have a bad habit of lowering my hand, which for the most part I didn't think I did. +points to him for pointing that out to me. It was going back and forth, and after I resolved DDV, he scooped. g3 I don't remember my opening hand, but I was staring down Venus + Gachi. The match goes back and forth until he stopped my push with a Veiler over my Diva. I pumped the Diva and just swung w/ Megalo. He rips TGU into Leviair, gets Sangan, and Creature Swaps. I chain my sphere just for him to MST it, and he gets another Veiler off of his Sangan to stop the second Diva I have in hand (which he knew from Dragoons).   Prophecy - Won the Match, Lost the Roll (He does his stuff g1 and I respond with a pumped Megalo and Marks up. I'm like if he doesn't have Trag then I win. g2 went back and forth, and at one point, I broke my own Undine to stop Power from going off. My hand wasn't terrible, so I was able to slow roll until I got my pieces together. Finished the match with Marks and a pumped Megalo w/ Armory equipped).   Gladiator Fire Fist Beasts - Won the Match, Lost the Roll (I blew this guy out pretty quickly even though he got a Chariot off on my Dragoons. His monster count seemed to be really low, or else he was just drawing very poorly. He would make like one push and after I cleared his monsters, he just wasn't seeing anymore. g2 he opens with like Bestiari, Fissure, and two sets I believe. I promptly Soul Taker the Besti off the board, set linde TT and Dust and tear his set up apart from there).   Fire King - Won the Match, Won the Roll (He opened with Barbaros and 2 sets to my set linde and break I believe. I don't remember too much about both games, but g2 pretty much went down hill for him from the start. He hits my sphere with MST, and he couldn't capitalize with the hand he had).   I ended up finishing 6-2 for 24th (no x-2s get in and I believe they cut the tournament a round short for conserving time). I didn't play against anything I prepared for, so I don't really know what to think about the performance of the side deck. People are playing so many random things. At any rate, I'm open for whatever suggestions there are as I am going for the best results.
11. Mermail Deck

Hey guys, as you can see I don't have a lot of posts here but I've been lurking for a bit and I've decided to go ahead and share my current Mermail build that I've been running. There is a DN Image at the end if that is quicker/preferable for anyone.   Any constructive criticism/thoughts/questions/etc are all much appreciated.   Typed List:   Monsters [24]: 3x Mermail Abyssmegalo 2x Mermail Abysslinde 2x Mermail Abysspike 3x Atlantean Dragoons 3x Atlantean Marksman 2x Atlantean Heavy Infantry 3x Deep Sea Diva 3x Genex Undine 2x Genex Controller 1x Moulinglacia The Elemental Lord   Spells [10]: 3x Mystical Space Typhoon 2x Salvage 1x Pot of Avarice 1x Heavy Storm 1x Mind Control 1x Dark Hole 1x Monster Reborn   Traps [7]: 3x Abyss-sphere 2x Torrential Tribute 2x Mirror Force   Extra: 1x Gachi Gachi Gantetsu 1x Number 17: Leviathan Dragon 1x Wind-Up Zenmaines 1x Mermail Abysstrite 1x Abyss Dweller 1x Bahamut Shark 1x Mermail Abyssgaios 1x Number 11: Big Eye 1x Armory Arm 1x T.G. Hyper Librarian 1x Ally of Justice Catastor 1x Dewloren, Tiger King of The Ice Barrier 1x Gungnir, Dragon of The Ice Barrier 1x Black Rose Dragon 1x Mist Wurm   Side: 2x Maxx "C" 2x Tragoedia 1x Airorca 2x Soul Taker 2x Royal Decree 2x Gozen Match 2x Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror 1x Malevolent Catastrophe 1x Deck Devastation Virus   DN Image:

Everything is pretty standard so there's not a whole lot to explain, but there's a few things I'll mention. I'm running no Allure, because I feel that Mind Control is usually a much more productive use for my Controllers. Even when I don't have MC, I'd still usually rather pull of a Synchro play with a Controller than use it for Allure, and the fact that I'm not maining Trag/Gorz was yet another reason not to run it. I am not running a level 8 Syncrho at the moment because I found myself basically never going into them, so I am trying Gaios for a bit instead. Finally, I'm maining 3 MST with the rise of FF.   Like I said, any critiques or comments are much appreciated. I am a new poster, so hopefully everything's formatted correctly, I tried to make the style of the post similar to the other good deck's I've seen posted here with the photos and whatnot.   Edit: Added side deck because I forgot it when I made thread, lol (sorry the side deck image is blurry, but it's easy enough to tell what everything is).
12. For what it's worth, here are the results of a 435 person OCG tournament. http://shriek.twoday.net/stories/232601068/ And here are videos of various matches: http://www.youtube.com/user/hanemancs/videos TLDR: Verz, Windups, and Mermails are topping, and a lot of decks are playing DDV. Hell, even the 4th place Fire Fist deck is running Vorse Raider to access it, as are all the Verz and most Mermail decks. There's a lot of data here to mine and discuss IMO.
13. Rage of the Ocean

15. Corridor of Agony

http://yugioh.wikia....rridor_of_Agony Stumbled upon this card, could have some merit against Wind-Up Magician combos as well as Mermail Abysslinde. Does seem very situational though. Just shining some light on the card....
