  1. Before I start with this report, I wanna introduce myself. I am a player from Lima, Perú that started playing the game competitively back in 2014. Back then, I was a really mediocre player, apparently destined to scrub out every single event. I really thought I was making an effort to change that, but the truth is, I never really did. I was kinda lazy, waiting for others to share their tech choices, or help me to build my deck for an event. Yes, I was awful.   At the end of 2014, I decided to change that. I started to learn the very basics of the game by myself. Reading tournament reports (something that I really do for a lot of reasons, and was my inspiration to write this very report,) watching deck profiles of relevant events, and lurking the Deck Discussions of this very forum were (and still are) my main tools for learning.    I was on a good path, but no, it wasn't enough. I kept misplaying, and scrubbing out of Regionals frequently. 2 years passed, and I still had no tops at big events. My goal was to improve, and I focused all my efforts, into the SA WCQ held in Lima, Peru last year. I remember that event vividly. I prepared specifically for it. I was sure it would be my time to shine. I think I played at it as I never did before. I was almost there! But, hey, a lot of people brick in the bubble, right? I was demoralized, as I thought all my efforts were for nothing (again.) So, I took the  RC-2 Judge Test the next day, passed it, and dedicated to be a Judge for about 6 months. lol.   Nevertheless, I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it, that my efforts would lead me to success. So, I brought 3 Monarchs structures, playtested a lot on DN, and locals for about 6 weeks (scrubbing locals while I was at it,) marked my assistance to the Regional on the FB page, and said "I am ready now."   Now, the actual report.   Before the Event: I was hanging out with my Girlfriend watching "The Blind Side" (A very good movie imo) on saturday night, then I got home at 2am, and slept on my bed with my clothes on. I woke up thanks to FB Chat notifications from my team, and surprise! I was almost late. I got into the venue 3 minutes before the registration was over. Yeah, I was really lucky. I hung out with some friends while the judges were preparing the tables, grabbed a Fanta, texted my parents that had no idea of my whereabouts, and headed to see the pairings.     Rounds:   -Round 1: Dracopals, Wyllis Inquil, (Regional Champion & YCS Colombia Top8.) So I just got paired with the player that decimated me at UDS Qualifiers the day before. It was my time to get revenge. (Oh, who I am kidding, I got there thinking the story would repeat itself again. lol)   Single 1: He started with the whole Draco Family & a Felgrand. I kinda broke it with a Stormforth, shuffled his Monkey back into Deck with Erebus, and activated Dominion. The game was mine, since his only card in Hand was a high scale he could not use. He topdecked that same Monkey I shuffled back... so unreal. After that game, I realized I made a misplay on my turn, so yeah, the end result was kinda my fault.    Single 2: I established a Dominion Lock, and popped one of his scales with Kuraz in his turn to brick his hand. He scooped.   Single 3: He got Ignister, Dweller, 2 scales, and a Set. I Twin Twister´d his Strike and Scale, got rid of his monsters with Erebus, and activated Dominion. He didn't have an out. 1-0   -Round 2: Mirror Match (Squires)   Game 1: I had the upper hand all game, but had a hard time killing him due to Prime. We kept repeating the Attack-Defend cycle, until time was called... as I said, I was ahead the whole game... 2-0     -Round 3: Blackwing   Game 1: He had double Whirlwind, and kept searching every single turn. I summoned Majesty and swung. I activated Return, and I was thinking on which monster to grab, between Mega Thestalos and Erebus, since I had Escalation on my hand. I finally chose Erebus, activated Domain, and passed. My opponent used Duality to grab a Raigeki. Oops... He established a really strong board, and left me with 800 lps. Nevertheless, I managed to summon Aether and attack for game.   Game 2: He bricked and Set 2. He flipped Anti-Spell, and I chained Twin Twister. I didn't brick. 3-0   Round 4: Kozmo Game 1: It was a long game. He drew Kozmo Town and unbricked his hand, and after some turns of grinding, he established a really strong field of a pilot and 2-3 ships. Nevertheless, he was at <1000lp so I summoned Erebus, attacked with Dominion boost, and it was over.   Game 2: He started with double Tincan and traps. There was 5 minutes left before time. I scooped. What else I was supposed to do? haha   Game 3: He veilered my Erebus, Raigekis, and summons Farmgirl in retaliation. I dumped Prime with Erebus during his MP1 to block Farmgirl´s attack. I activated Decree in his End Phase and resolved an Erebus in my turn. The game was over after that. 4-0   Round 5. Burning Abyss/Phantom Knights, Alejandro Loayza (Regional Champion x2. Top4 YCS Brazil. Top 32 YCS Colombia. Top64 South American WCQ 2015.) This was one of the best duels I ever had, against a really strong opponent and friend.    Game 1: He started with summoning Dante, searching 2 Fog Blades, and passed. He flipped Anti-Spell on my Draw Phase. I survived the next turn, and was able to activate Return, Dominion, and start searching every single Monarch in my Deck, attempting to get rid of all 3 Fog Blades (and a Veiler.) It was successful, and won the game after summoning my last Majesty, to pass through his Dante/Cir loop. I was gonna deck out, I won with 1 card left in Deck. lol.   Game 2: He summoned double Dante, set 2 Fog Blades, and passed. I summoned Majesty, activated Domain, tried to attack a Dante, and he used Fog Blade. I set a Decree and passed. I activated Decree in his Draw Phase, and he just Dark Hole´d me. Ouch. 4-0-1   Round 6: Infernoid Game 1: He activated Reasoning, and I called 8 thinking it was Kozmo. He milled Decatron. Oops. Nevertheless, he burned up all his resources to banish my 3 Primes, and I won the game after some grinding.   Game 2: He activated double Reasoning. In both I called "1." In both he just milled Decatron. My hand was weak, with just a blue and both Kuraz in Hand. I survived his turn, then managed the comeback by abusing Return search every turn. 5-0-1 I got my invite. YAS!   Round 7: Mirror Match (Squires) I got paired against my friend Cesar Wiese, from Piura. He got 3rd this event, and was one of the best mirrors I ever had. I really enjoyed it. Gratz mate for the success!   Game 1: We both bricked, but on his 2nd-3rd turn he unbricked by summoning Edea. After that, it was a really long grind game, in which we fucked each other up with Ehther plays on each others turn. But I was low on LPs, and Edea made my efforts to keep up the game a nightmare, so I scooped with 10 minutes left on the clock.   Game 2: I opened weak, while he opened Edea again. After he chaliced my Erebus, the game was over. 5-1-1   At this point, I started to feel the pressure of the "bubble," just like last time at the WCQ last year. But I wasn't going to fail like last time. No one would stop me this time. No. One.   Round 8: Magician "Shady" was the first word that popped in my mind, after seeing the way he shuffled, and how he cut my Deck all game. I was getting a nice surprise... Game 1: Opened 4 Monarchs, and a Prime. Nice. He OTKed me next turn. I must admit I was salty. But nevermind, I was sure I was going to win. As I said: "No. One."   Game 2: I opened playable, and established a Majesty/Dominion Lock. I Escalated into Erebus when he attacked with an Odd-Eyes Dragon, and with Return I searched Aether. I decided to keep her in hand. On my turn, he activated Mask of Restrict. Oops. I just keep poking, while he was locked with his own Monkey/Dragonpit as scales, with no out to Dominion.   Game 3: He started, activated Upstart, then Sacred Swords banishing Apex. I don't know when or how, but instead of the five cards he should have had in Hand, he had 6, and on top of that, he shuffled his Hand... judge was called, and after some minutes of explanation and arguing, a game loss was given to him.  6-1-1   Well yeah. Maybe winning the game that way was a dick move on my part, and I felt bad thinking about it, because that was not the way I intended to win the match. Thankfully, some friends came up, and cheered me up, while explaining to me that the game loss was fair, and should not feel bad about it. Well... maybe that´s right.     I was chilling with some Friends, looking for something to eat (I forgot I had my meal on backup.) Finally, standings were published, and I got extremely happy when they announced me coming as 6th place. I. Finally. Did. It. My first top. I was congratulated by almost all my friends at the event, and by FB Chat.  I felt happy with myself, because I finally achieved my goal of improve myself, and with that, secured my first top ever. That, or I got really really lucky but eh. I guess bricking 3 out of 5 games at locals for 6 weeks has its rewards (?) Now that I got my first top, I am eager to aim for bigger goals, like Nats and International Tops. It will be a long road, but hey, I am now aware more than ever that I am more than capable of doing it. Thanks buddy.   Slops: -My Friend Gonzalo getting 9th  :( -Horrible Prize Support (a lone playmat for Top8). -The way my final round finished. -Having to pay a debt of 100$ to Loayza for getting the cards I needed. (It is really fair, but I must start to save money now haha.) -Forgot to give cards to my friend to sell.     Final thoughts: -This was a great experience for me, because leaving aside the fact I finally topped, I finally realized that success depends on no one but yourself.  Sucess will reflect solely on the effort you put into it. Hey all, my name is Fletcher Thomas and I made Top 16 this past weekend at the 150th YCS playing Burning Abyss.  I’ve been playing this deck a lot recently including at the previous YCS Chicago where I finished X-2-1 after Swiss in 42nd place.  Well now after a new set release gave BA some nice new tools, I made some significant changes to the deck I played in Chicago and took the following to Columbus.     Main (40) Monsters (19) 3 Absolute King Back Jack 1 Alich 3 Cir 2 Draghig 1 Farfa 3 Graff 1 Libic 1 Rubic 3 Scarm 1 Tour Guide From the Underworld   Spells (2) 1 Foolish Burial 1 Soul Charge   Traps (19) 2 Breakthrough Skill 1 Crush Card Virus 3 Fiend Griefing 2 Fire Lake of the Burning Abyss 2 Karma Cut 3 Mind Crush 3 Phoenix Wing Wind Blast 2 Raigeki Break 1 Vanity’s Emptiness   Side (15) 2 Artifact Lancea 2 Effect Veiler 2 Maxx “C” 2 De-Fusion 3 Mystical Space Typhoon 1 Raigeki 1 Bottomless Trap Hole 1 Breakthrough Skill 1 Fire Lake of the Burning Abyss   Extra (15) 2 Virgil, Rock Star of the Burning Abyss 3 Dante, Traveller of the Burning Abyss 3 Downerd Magician 1 Ghostrick Alucard 1 Mechquipped Angineer 1 Number 17: Leviathan Dragon 1 Number 20: Giga-Brilliant 1 Number 31: Acid Golem of Destruction 1 Number 47: Nightmare Shark 1 Wind-Up Zenmaines       The Deck Basically, to have any chance at beating Nekroz with BA, you need to draw traps.  Brio and Trish just absolutely annihilate the deck.  This is one reason why I like Back Jack so much.  Even if you open with too many monsters, you have a reasonable chance of milling a Back Jack which gives you at least a 50% of getting another trap (much higher if you don’t search off Scarm).   Fiend Griefing was an amazing addition to the deck.  It ups the consistency a ton by giving you another card to access your key early cards, Graff and Scarm.  It also acts as disruption frequently netting you a +1 on each resolution.  Alternatively if you already have your engine rolling, you can send Back Jack to replace the Griefing with a new trap.  This card is amazing and I can’t see playing anything except 3.  It only really sucks in the Qli matchup which is pretty good anyway.   I played 7 discard traps to try to remedy the main problem with Back Jack, drawing it.  Discarding Back Jack off of a trap is similar to sending it with Griefing in that you just get a new trap after the first resolves.  It’s a lot of disruption for your opponent to try to deal with.  Also leaving yourself with 1 card in hand with a discard trap is surprisingly effective for making your opponent summon Trish.  If this interaction occurs, it usually leaves you far enough ahead to win the game.   It seems to me that many people aren’t a fan of the new monster, Draghig, who stacks a Burning Abyss card.  I like this card mostly for his synergy with Back Jack.  If you don’t have your engine going yet, you can stack Scarm/Graff and mill it with Back Jack or if you already have a field, stack Fire Lake and set it up on your opponent’s turn.  If you have a discard trap with Back Jack or Draghig along with a Fiend Griefing, you can just set Fire Lake from your deck.  This is amazing against pretty much anything that isn’t Nekroz, Shaddoll, or sometimes the mirror.  I may cut it down to 1 in future builds though I’m not sure.  He also synergizes with Traveller which I didn’t really consider for this tournament but think may be worth a slot.   I only played one of Alich, Farfa, Libic, and Rubic.  I think Alich, Farfa, and Libic are fairly obvious choices at 1 since you don’t really want to draw them.  You just want the option of searching them if they are needed to out something.  Alich is especially important for the Nekroz matchup since you can chain Fiend Griefing or a discard trap to their ritual spell putting Alich on the chain after their ritual summon providing a way to negate Trish. Rubic isn’t as clear cut, but I guess the deck has more searching power from Fiend Griefing, and you don’t want to draw more than 1 Rubic which makes it seem fine as a one of.   I’m not going to go too in depth on the side deck since I think all of these choices are fairly standard and have seen play in other decks.  I put Bottomless in since I thought Qli would have a fairly large showing and I had too many dead main deck cards that I wanted to take out for them.  Here’s how I sided for some common matchups:   Nekroz I was mostly afraid of Denko and Decree in this matchup post siding so I wanted hand traps. Out: 1 Back Jack 1 Draghig 1 Fire Lake 1 Raigeki Break 1 Soul Charge In: 2 Lancea 2 Effect Veiler 1 Raigeki   Shaddoll Out: 1 Fire Lake 1 Draghig 1 Crush Card 1 Mind Crush In: 2 De-Fusion 1 Raigeki 1 Breakthrough Skill   Qliphort Out: 3 Fiend Griefing 2 Breakthrough Skill 1 Vanity’s Emptiness In: 3 Mystical Space Typhoon 1 Raigeki 1 Bottomless Trap Hole 1 Fire Lake   Tellar Siding for this depends on first/second.  I put in the 3rd Lake for first over I think Soul Charge.  I don’t really like Mind Crush because they have Call/Oasis/Altair/ROTA to get their monsters going again.  All they need is 1.  I also might have sided in Raigeki for Diamond going second. Griefing really shines in this matchup. Out: 3 Mind Crush 1 Crush Card In: 3 Mystical Space Typhoon 1 Breakthrough       The Journey The crew, James, Joe, Jon, Mark, Ryne, and I, left from Minneapolis Thursday night in Jon’s Taurus with 3 of us stuffed in the front with the fold down seat and 3 in the back.  Fortunately I have relatives in the Chicago area (shoutout and thanks to them even though none of them will read this) so we could stop there after about 7 hours of driving and leave the remaining 6 hours or so to Columbus for early Friday morning.  That night we just watched some TV, got some pizza, and using some solid Theory-Oh, I made a bunch of changes to my side deck that I hadn’t really liked at some locals earlier in the week.   We were pretty worried about the tournament filling up since Konami was saying they’d cap it at 2100 entrants.  So we left at about 7AM on Friday thinking that would get us there at about 1PM for the start of preregistration.  Well we forgot about the time change, so we ended up getting there closer to 2:30.  In the hour before we got there, there was talk online saying that somewhere around 1700 people had already registered.  Needless to say, we were nervous about making it putting us in a big rush.  I had to let a bunch of people pass me in line as I scrambled to finish writing out my deck list.  Fortunately there was really no need to worry as only 1763 people even ended up registered.  Friday afternoon/night I played a few test games against Joe’s Qliphorts, walked around the city, and helped others decide on some last minute deck choices.     The next morning, I got up, had some (very unsatisfying) complimentary breakfast and got to the convention center where I resleeved and prepared myself for the coming rounds.       Round 1 vs Lucas with Tellars Game 1 he goes first with Deneb set 4, but my Dante goes through and I think I had about 3 traps.  I get a Back Jack or 2 and force 2 Alphas on my Fiend Griefings on Altair’s effect letting my Fire Lake resolve on 3 Back Row.  I take the game from there.   Game 2 he goes first. I think he had less (or maybe just worse) backrow this time and I’m able to get the Fire Lake off even more quickly. This leads to a win fairly soon.   1-0     Round 2 vs Brian with Shaddolls Game 1 I resolve a Wing Blast on Winda during his end phase when I know El Shaddoll was set that turn.  He never finds another Fusion as I take the game after 2 turns of hits from a Dante and a Cir.   Game 2 he gets off the Fusion while I have Dante, but I’m able to grind him out of it with some good traps including a Mind Crush on Fusion after he adds it back.  He’s down to El Shaddoll and a Core.  I make a new Dante (probably not something I should have done), and he draws a monster next turn in Mathematician allowing him to get the ball rolling by adding Fusion back off Core and overwhelming me.   Game 3 I open a Dante with scarm searching Tour Guide and time is called at the start of his turn.  He sets 4 backrow and passes (ouch).  D.D. Ground is flipped in my Standby so I just make a second Dante and hit him for 2000 since I can’t mill.  I Downerd them both so I can pierce anything he puts in defense since to win in time.  He has an El Shaddoll, but I still have traps and it’s simply not enough.   This guy ended up making Day 2.   2-0     Round 3 vs Nekroz (forgot to write down his name, but I think he said he was from Nashville) Game 1 he Maxx “C”s my turn 1 Dante made with Farfa and Cir.  I detach Farfa instead since I didn’t really want to get a special off Cir.  I set Lake and Mind Crush leaving 1 card in my hand, a second Lake.  This is a mistake on my part since he’s playing Nekroz and I should have played around this.  He starts his turn with 7 cards and summons Manju to search Kaleido and I Mind Crush his Unicore when he activates it.  He reveals Book of Eclipse, Brio, Valk, ROTA, and Clausolas.  This easily lets him summon Trishula even after the Mind Crush and he wins shortly after.   Game 2 I go first opening Graff, Veiler, Mind Crush, Wing Blast, and Fiend Griefing.  I set the traps and pass.  He uses Clausolas for Kaleido and I call Unicore on Mind Crush when he uses it but I whiff losing my Veiler.  He reveals his hand of Maxx “C”, Decree, an irrelevant card I can’t remember, and summons Valk tributing Shurit to search Trish.  He hits me with Valk and tributes it in MP2 to draw a card.  He uses the Kaleido in grave to search Mirror and I’m ready to Griefing his Shurit when he activates it since he neglected to search Brio first earlier.  Well the card he drew off Valk was Denko so I lose.   Fortunately this guy finished day 1 X-2 so he was a good tie breaker.   2-1     Round 4 vs Ousama with Tellars Game 1 I go first with a Dante made with Scarm and Cir searching Graff with 2 Wing Blasts and Crush Card set.  He tells me his hand is bad as the game is starting and it definitely isn’t great as he Vegas into Deneb making Constellar Omega (not sure why) and only has 2 backrow.  I blind Wing Blast 1 to get my Graff effect and set him back a turn.  His one remaining trap is Compulse and he uses it on the Dante during Standby letting me special Graff with the Cir material and make  a new Dante to kill Omega.  The card I spun was Raigeki and he starts his turn by using it. I then use Crush Card to get rid of his Altair and an Unuk leaving him with no plays.  I try to finish him off next turn forgetting about Crush Card, but it doesn’t matter as his topdeck doesn’t do anything for him.   Game 2 he starts Deneb set 3.  He forgets to use his sideboard Mischief of the Yokai before I make a Dante with Graff and Cir specialing Scarm setting Lake.  The Lake resolves on a bunch of his cards and I take the game shortly from there.   3-1     Round 5 vs Brandon with Nekroz Game 1 I open a Dante made with 2 Cirs (ouch) setting a Karma cut and a Wing Blast.  He starts poorly as well with ROTA for Clausolas for Cycle tributing Shurit to summon back the Clausolas and searching Trish.  I mill a Graff off of my detached Cir from Dante and he Maxx “C”s so I just pass after summoning a new Graff and Cir.  He summons Trish, but I Karma Cut it discarding my last card in hand, Back Jack, getting me a Griefing Fiend.  He uses Book of Eclipse when I overlay for Dante next turn giving me a draw.  I forgot what happened the next few turns, but he runs out of resources and scoops when I chain Griefing targeting Djinn on his activation of Cycle.   Game 2 he goes first with just a set monster.  I assume it’s a Djinn and attack it with my Dante that has a specialed Cir under it.  Unfortunately I didn’t think enough about it and it’s a Fire Hand. I hit Unicore with Mind Crush on his Kaleido next turn.  He reveals his hand of MST, Swordmaster, Ice Hand, and Bull Blader so I feel pretty good about winning this game now.  It takes a while for me to get through his cards, but I’m way up on resources the whole time eventually leading to a win.   This guy also finished X-2 day 1 giving me another lucky good tie breaker.   4-1     Round 6 vs Shante with Yang Zing Game 1 I open with 4 backrow pass.  He activates the Zefra field spell and I panic a little because I have no idea what the vast majority of the Zefra cards do and I hate reading everything. Fortunately he’s actually playing Yang Zing as he searches one of their new Zefra cards.  He summons the level 2 Dark Tuner guy and pitches two including the one he searched.  I Breakthrough and he chains Book of Moon.  This next part is weird as he just doesn’t flip it facedown from Book and I somehow forget he has to do this, and he just resolves the effect. Neither of the monsters he summoned are tuners so I Wing Blast the level 2 discarding Scarm. He passes with no backrow so I search Tour Guide and the 2 specialed Yang Zings are banished (I had no idea this happened as I guess I’m more unfamiliar with Yang Zing than I thought).  Next turn I Guide for Graff and hit him with Dante Cir.  I mind Crush the lvl 2 in his Standby and he scoops.   Game 2 takes a while.  He opens with 3 or 4 backrow and a set monster.  I don’t attack for the next 3 or 4 turns as I set up a field of defense position BA monsters and stack a Lake with Draghig.  He just keeps setting cards and maybe using a few traps to little effect on my plays.  I draw the stacked Lake.  Resolve it for 3 of his backrow adding it back off Dante.  Set it again.  In his next End Phase I use MST on his last backrow chaining Lake on his 3 set monsters.  They all miss timing and he has 0 cards left.  I take it from there.   5-1     Round 7 vs Jordan with Burning Abyss Game 1 I open 5 monsters going first getting me 2 Dantes and a Graff in defense with Back Jack milled in graves and a trap stacked.  If he was playing Nekroz, Shaddolls, or Tellars I probably would have lost, but fortunately a field of just monsters is good in this matchup.  He Virgils and I use the Back Jack trap on it.  He makes a Dante or something too and sets 3 backrow.  I try to Virgil forcing one of them.  I believe the other two go off in my Battle Phase, and I set my own drawn trap with a Dante still on board.  I don’t remember the rest of the specifics, but I mill another Back Jack at some point for a very relevant trap and stick a field of Virgil Dante to his 1 or 2 cards in hand getting me the win shortly.   Game 2 he goes first and I have Maxx “C” for his Dante play using Graff and Cir.  he plays through it specialing Scarm giving me 3 draws.  He then has no backrow or Maxx “C” (bad hands are bad).  I start my turn with 8 cards, 3 Graff, Scarm, Cir, and 3 solid traps.  I make a Dante specialing Rubic off Graff to make Virgil losing Scarm and a Graff to no effects but removing his Scarm.  There are some back and forth turns and we enter time at 8000 life each.  He summons a BLS to my empty board at some point and I have to use Griefing to send Farfa and prevent the damage.  On my next turn he has 1 trap left.  I make a Virgil and he thinks for a while on the trap. He opts to not use it and I Virgil away BLS.  I go to Battle and he Wing Blasts my Virgil getting a Graff of of his Cir discard.  He can’t push any damage through my newly drawn Karma Cut and we finish both at 8000 resulting in a drawn game and a match win for me.   6-1     Round 8 vs Galo with Nekroz Game 1 I Mind Crush his Unicore on Kaleido activation.  The rest of his hand isn’t great.  He summons a Cameraclops to kill my Dante.  I leave it up after my next turn to delay him getting any spell searches.  I go way up on cards after a little while and take the game.   Game 2 his hand is even worse than the first game.  I get another good Mind Crush leading to another win.   Galo also made top 16 so a big congratulations to him as well as thank you for the tie breaker.   7-1     Round 9 vs Marjanco with Nekroz   Game 1 I resolve Crush Card causing him to lose 4 cards.  That’s all you need to know.   Game 2 I opened 5 traps, set 4 to keep discard traps online and maybe bait Trish.  He summons Denko and Brio and I scoop it up after drawing another trap.   Game 3 I go first with Scarm, Farfa, Fiend Griefing, Raigeki Break, and Lancea.  I special the Farfa and he Maxx “C”s me so I set the traps and pass not wanting to give him a bunch of draws when I can stop his next turn regardless of what he has.  He has Denko, but I Lancea when he activates Mirror with Trish in hand and Brio Clausolas in grave.  The Mirror fizzles and he reveals Trish, 2 Forbidden Lances, and Djinn.  I draw Alich and kill his Denko next turn after making Dante searching Guide off Scarm.  He searches Cycle from grave banishing Clasolas.  When he activates it I think for a long time about what he could have drawn and what I should do because of it.  I eventually decide to Griefing the Brio, but he tributes Shurit summoning Trish hitting my Guide from hand and Dante on board.  I should have Raigeki Breaked the Cycle discarding Alich to negate Trish.  Instead I make things even worse by choosing to use the Farfa from under Dante banishing his Trish.  This lets him search another ritual spell to summon the Brio he searched tributing Djinn.  My Raigeki Break is useless against his 2 Lances and I can’t break the lock.     This game was quite possibly (even probably) winnable.   7-2     I was pleased that I made day 2 at a second YCS in a row, but it would have been much nicer going into day 2 at X-1 with less pressure.  Mark and Ryne also make Day 2.  We order pizza and get to sleep since Sunday starts at 9.     Round 10 vs Michael with Qliphort Game 1 I open with 2 Dantes and set Breakthrough and Griefing.  He plays Scout, searches Stealth, activates Carrier, pendulums 2 Helix, tributes for Stealth destroying both of my useless backrow and spinning the Dante with an Alich under it.  The Stealth kills the other Dante with Cir and Graff under it giving me a Graff and a Rubic on board.  He sets 2.  I make Virgil and special Scarm off Graff.  I discard Cir to shuffle in Scout, but he uses Fiendish Chain.  I special Draghig from grave and make a Dante with it and Scarm.  I summon Guide and he uses Re-qliate.  The detached Draghig stacks Lake.  I set my drawn Mind Crush and put Downerd over the Dante to protect it from the potential Stealth/Carrier.  Mind Crush hits the Stealth he searches off Scout. He pendulums backs the 2 Helix and tributes them for his drawn Odd-Eyes.  It attacks over Guide and he passes.  I draw Lake.  Downerd crashes with Odd-Eyes giving me Cir.  I normal Cir and set my last card, Lake.  I Lake his relevant cards during his Standby sending Cir and Virgil.  Win from there.   Game 2 he starts with Scout, Saqlifice on Helix, and 2 backrow.  I make 2 Dantes milling a Back Jack off of a Draghig detach letting me stack Lake.  I also set Mind Crush.  In his Standby I banish Back Jack to set the stacked Lake, use it to destroy Helix, Scout, and a trap.  He searches Scout.  I Mind Crush it.  The game is over.   8-2     Round 11 vs Imran with Nekroz Game 1 I Raigeki Break his Trish on summon discarding my last card in hand.  Then when he tries to Mirror, I use Griefing to shuffle in Shurit causing it to fizzle.  The Black Jack I discarded off of Raigeki Break got a Mind Crush which I use on his next turn hitting the Shurit he searches.  All he has left is spells so I win.   Game 2 I make a Dante with foolish and Graff along with set Breakthrough and Vanity’s.  I Breakthrough his Manju.  He Raigeki’s and I use Graff to summon Rubic.  He sets 1 backrow.  I make a Virgil to shuffle in the backrow ending with Virgil, Cir, Dante, set Vanity’s.  I flip the Vanity’s on his Kaleido and he never finds an out as I continue to use Virgil’s effect almost every turn.   9-2     At this point, I feel fairly confident about making top cut since I knew a bunch of my early opponents did well giving me pretty good tie breakers despite taking my first loss really early in Round 3.  I sneak in at 30th.  Unforunately Mark, who also finished X-2, had worse tie breakers and finished at 41st.     Top 32 vs Justin with Nekroz Game 1 we get deck checked and it’s taking longer than normal.  The judges come back with my deck out of the box and my deck list in hand.  Apparently I forgot to write 2 Fire Lake in the trap column and neither me nor the judge that reviewed my deck list at registration noticed that I was 2 short of 19 traps and the 40 card deck total that I had written down.  So I start top 32 with a game loss and a warning for mismatched extra deck sleeves which I honestly didn’t know was a rule.  I’ve been deck checked multiple times at regionals with mismatched extra deck sleeves without anything happening.  We go to game 2 with a time extension without siding.   Game 2 I make a Dante with Cir specialing a milled Draghig with a backrow or 2.  He summons Denko and kills the Draghig and I choose not to stack because I want to draw a trap.  He passes. I kill the Denko while making a second Dante and he scoops on his next turn.  I’m not sure what he’s playing so I side in Veilers, but not Lanceas in case it’s Shaddolls.   Game 3 he chooses first and searches Cycle with Clausolas summoning it tributing Shurit to search Brio and setting 2 backrow.  I have Scarm, 2 Graff, Tour Guide, Raigeki Break, and Fiend Griefing.  I activate Scarm and he Mind Crushes it.  I Guide for Cir into Dante specialing Scarm and milling a Back Jack.  I special Graff for a second Dante without milling, Downerd them both to protect against Brio, set my backrow, and pass.  He flips Decree in my End Phase.  Fortunately his hand is slow so he just summons Unicore and clears both Downerds by changing Clausolas to attack mode and setting a backrow.  I special back a Dante with the Graff into a Cir on first Downerd kill, add Cir Graff off the Dantes, and Rubic off Scarm.  On my turn, I summon Cir and kill the Clausolas.  He just kills Cir with Unicore, I special Scarm, and he sets another backrow.  I normal Rubic to make Virgil, attack over Unicore, and spin the Decree.  He chains his two backrow, both MST, to clear mine.  I empty my hand by making another Dante with a Libic from Graff and Cir from hand detaching Libic to special last monster in hand, Graff, and set my drawn Breakthrough Skill.  He draws Prep giving him a lot more plays.  He summons Brio tributing Shurit and I chain Breakthrough to the Shurit search so he can’t negate it with Trish which he does search.  I use the Back Jack from earlier randomly hitting Karma Cut (very solid).  He ends his turn with Unicore and Brio on field and Valk and Trish in hand.  I detach Cir from my Dante chaining Breakthrough in grave on Unicore and specialing Farfa to make Mechquipped with the leftover Graff.  I try to kill Brio with Virgil in Battle and he Valks, but I use Mechquipped to negate it.  Dante kills the Brio.  I crash my other Dante to get Virgil fuel.  I try to shuffle in Unicore but he negates it with Trish.  I set my drawn Soul Charge and search off Scarm for one card in hand for Karma Cut.  He tops Manju to search Brio.  I Mechquipped detaching Farfa to banish his Unicore so he can’t make an Exciton or something.  He summons the Trish, but I just Karma Cut.  The game is mine from there.     Top 16 vs Benedict with Qliphort Game 1 he goes first with Scout and Monolith, pendulum Helix and Carrier, tribute for Stealth, bounce Scout, replay and search Re-Qliate, set one, and draw 2 in End Phase.  I have a very mediocre hand of 2 Cir, Alich, Rubic, Lake, Breakthrough.  I normal Cir to make Dante with Alich but don’t hit any BA off the mill.  I special Rubic to turn on Lake.  I use it in his Standby to clear Scout, Monolith, and Stealth.  He has the second Scout and the game is over.   Game 2 I go first with a Dante and a few backrow.  He summons Helix with Saqlifice and 2 backrow.  He flips Emptiness when I try to special but I chain Wing Blast and his other backrow is Lose 1 Turn which is fortunately irrelevant against my deck.  I use a Dante to mill Back Jack and detach Draghig to set up Fire Lake.  I believe I Lake the monster with Saqlifice and his Backrow giving him a Scout search, but I just set up Lake again on my next turn and take the game.   Game 3 he goes first with Scout, Monolith, pendulum Carrier, tribute for Helix, set 2, and draw in end phase.  I have 5 monsters and a Raigeki Break.  He flips Emptiness on my Scarm special.  I set it and Raigeki Break.  He searches Carrier with Scout and tributes Helix to pop my Raigeki Break which I chain discarding Farfa on his 1 remaining backrow, Book of Moon, to remove Emptiness.  He Pendulums 3, kills Scarm, hits me for 5400, sets 1 trap, and draws off Monolith.  I search Rubic off Scarm.  I make Virgil and he thinks on his trap but opts not to use it.  I spin his Scout and make a Dante killing both of his Carriers leaving him with 2 Helix, a backrow, and Monolith to my Virgil, Dante, and set Karma Cut.  He has the second Scout giving him the game shortly.   I question if there may have been some way to play my Virgil turn that would have allowed me to stack Lake with Draghig, mill it with another Dante, and crash Dante to add it back while leaving 2 BA on board.  Or maybe I should have made 2 Dante instead to try to maximize the chance of hitting a Back Jack for the Lake.  I’m not sure, but I haven’t found the line of play yet.  My hand was Cir, Graff, Draghig, Rubic (which could have been something different from the Scarm), and Karma Cut with a clear board to his 2 Carrier, 2 Helix, Scout, Monolith, and 1 backrow (which ended up being Bottomless that he chose to not use on Virgil, but use on Cir).  Because he had the second Scout, I think I would have needed to Virgil the Scout AND get Lake to have a chance at winning.  Also, maybe I should have set Graff instead of Scarm after he used Emptiness since I knew I would have to chain Raigeki Break on his set to remove Emptiness when he tributed Helix, but discarding Graff wouldn’t get me his effect while Scarm would.  This play somewhat depends on him using the 2400 Carrier to remove my set so he couldn’t kill the Scarm/Rubic I got off Graff. I doubt he would have done this after seeing me discard Scarm off of Raigeki break.  Maybe it would have given me a better chance though.     Overall, it was a great weekend.  The top 32 mat looks pretty sick.  They’re mailing me a complete set of Crossover Souls (does that mean every card in the set?  Does it include every rarity of the card as well?  If anyone knows, that information would be great).     We drove back to my relatives’ place in Chicago on Sunday and spent the night before a leisurely morning and finishing the rest of the drive on Monday.  Shoutouts to James, Joe, Jon, Mark, and Ryne for help on deck decisions and being great to travel with.  Also to the UMN Yu-Gi-Oh Club and Minnesota players in general.  We have a Youtube page for the club which I’ll shamelessly link here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdFz8euecqUmVUZwUN0IVOw.  It’s not that active right now, but I hope to put up a deck profile pretty soon.   Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed.  If you have any questions about my list or whatever feel free to ask.  
  3. Hey guys, this is Collin Reardon. Some of you know me, some of you don’t. Regardless, I am considered to be one of the best deck builders in the Northern Virginia area by many of the good players. Now, I don’t mean this to come off as cocky, as I am not nearly as good as others in terms of skill during physical gameplay. However, in terms of deck construction, I feel like I have strong theory and have really improved on my deck building skill in the past couple years. Anyways, I won’t spend too much more time on that. This article is about the deck my team had prepared for ARG Richmond, the reasons we chose every single card, and the journey surrounding it. One team member got 3rd with the deck (Nic Colella, aka Ginger), and another almost topped as well (Nishaad Lorengo, aka “SQUIDS~” on DN).   The story of Team Islands (sponsored by The Island Games, theislandg.com) begins when me and my friend Nishaad started working on the Shaddoll deck. We both liked the deck a lot, and knew it would be the best or second best deck. What I really liked about it was it’s flexibility in match-ups, while also being able to play hate for Nekroz. Nekroz isn’t the best deck by a big enough margin right now like best decks have been in the past. If you build your deck to beat Nekroz, you can beat Nekroz. However, Shaddolls are also really good against everything else, while also being able to make plays that are also good against Nekroz. In other words, you can primarily focus on beating the Nekroz match-up while also being able to beat the rest of the field.   Anyways, there were several people asking me for a Shaddoll build and a Nekroz build. People in my local area are always asking me for builds as I am one of the most respected deck builders in the area. So one night, I made a Facebook group called “Collin’s Deck Building”. I only added 6 of my closest friends to the group, who respected me as a deck builder and who also I could trust for help. These 6 people are: -Nicky Reardon (My brother, and probably one of the best players I know) -Nishaad Lorengo (My newest friend out of the members, but became one of my closest. He’s very new to competitive play, but is probably the second best player on the team behind Nicky. Both he and Nicky just have a natural gift for strategic thinking that not many people have. He also made the biggest contributions to the deck compared to any other members by far. His ideas also surprised me, and I learned to respect his ideas very quickly.) -Dilan Solanki (Again, another great player who I respect as a player and he respects me as a deck builder, and keeps improving so much every week) -Ryan Levine (Another friend who came up with good ideas and also has an interesting view on things that not many people have) -Ginger (Also someone who I was also discussing the deck with, and who respects me greatly as both a deck builder and player. He top 4’d the ARG with the deck, and helped build it a little, but only a little. Also the best person I know at Goat format, and PS - I know people who topped SJC’s during the actual Goat format and have won Goat 1ks) -Tristan (Probably my oldest friend in the Yugioh community. He doesn’t play anymore, but frequently comes back randomly every couple formats, so definitely someone who I was going to include in this Facebook group.)   This group, originally just for deck lists, eventually formed into a team. We quickly realized that we have one of the strongest group of people and different skills in our area, and everyone was putting a lot of effort and an equal amount of good ideas, so the formation of a team almost sort of naturally occurred. So, originally in “Collin’s Deck Building”, I posted decklists of Shaddolls and Nekroz. This early version of Nekroz is VERY similar to the final decklist Ryan Levine and Nicky ended up playing at the ARG, Ryan also topping with the deck. However, the Shaddoll deck needed a lot of work. After a LOT (and I mean a LOT) of discussion within our team, we came to this list: Monsters: 21 3 Star Seraph Scepter 3 Star Seraph Sovereignty 3 Effect Veiler 3 Shaddoll Beast 3 Shaddoll Falco 2 Shaddoll Squamata 2 Shaddoll Hedgehog 1 Shaddoll Dragon 1 Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning   Spells: 14 3 Upstart Goblin 3 El Shaddoll Fusion 3 Shaddoll Fusion 2 Dark Hole 1 Raigeki 1 Foolish Burial 1 Soul Charge   Traps: 5 2 Call of the Haunted 2 Solemn Scolding 1 Vanity’s Emptiness   Extra Deck: 15 3 El Shaddoll Construct 2 El Shaddoll Winda 1 El Shaddoll Shekhinaga 1 Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer 1 Number 10: Illumiknight 1 Evilswarm Ouroboros 1 Stellarknight Delteros 1 Stellarknight Constellar Diamond 1 Goyo Guardian 1 Arcanite Magician 1 Black Rose Dragon 1 Leo, the Keeper of the Sacred Tree   Sideboard: 15 3 Artifact Lancea 1 Thunder King Rai-Oh 1 Vanity’s Fiend 3 Mystical Space Typhoon 1 Mind Control 3 Mistake 3 Royal Decree   We knew immediately that we were going to play the Star Seraphs, as we felt it was the best light engine the deck could play. It is very crucial that this deck has a good light engine as making Construct is essentially the entire deck. I know the Star Seraphs are inherently inconsistent as their OWN engine, but fusing for Construct is their primary goal in the deck. It’s just the fact that if you DO open one of each Seraph, Scepter + Call, or Scepter + Soul Charge, you have a near auto-win. If you think about it, that’s actually insane. Just for having lights in the deck (which is necessary for the deck to be functional), you are given a near auto win against ANY match-up, if you draw just any of many two card combos. That itself just concludes why Seraphs are the best light engine for the deck to run.   After we decided we would be running Shaddolls with Star Seraphs, I knew I had to find a good turn 1 play. If you open the Star Seraphs, you want to be able to do something broken on your first turn. I looked at OCG lists, and they ran Summoner Monk and Shock Master. Now, Shock Master is exactly what the deck needed, a busted turn 1 play to go into with the Star Seraphs. So since Shock Master is banned in the TCG, I went on DN and searched rank 4 XYZ monsters, to find a good turn 1 play for the deck. If I didn’t find a good one, our dream of Shaddoll Star Seraphs was dead. However, I came across this card called Number 10: Illumiknight. This was exactly the card we needed. Turn 1, if you open Sovereignty and Summoner Monk, you can do the Star Seraph combo, draw 2 cards, then summon Illumiknight. Scepter’s effect allows you to pop the random summoner monk on your field, and then draw a third card. Then, you can use it’s effect to discard a Shaddoll and draw a card, then use the Shaddoll monster’s effect. Even if you don’t discard a Shaddoll, this combo seemed insane. You draw 4 cards and use Falco or Hedgehog, or you can draw 4 cards while fixing your awkward hand, or just draw 5 cards. All these options seemed insane, and I knew I had found exactly what I needed.   Now, Summoner Monk ended up being cut for Call of the Haunted, as Summoner Monk was a huge liability with everyone starting to main 3-5 hand traps in literally every deck. Monk was good, as it let you open the nut draw more often, or you could just go Monk into Scepter, add Sovereignty, then overlay for Lavalval Chain to stack another Scepter; however, Call just ended up being better, as it didn’t fall to hand traps, and it allowed you to get back Construct and then use it’s effect, which is just amazing against Nekroz.   The early copies of the deck had 2 Mathematician in it. It seems like a great card, making your engine more consistent, being able to use any Shaddoll effect, a floater, making Shekhinaga, etc. However, the more and more I played the deck, the more and more I noticed how terrible the card actually was. The best turn one play in the deck that CONSISTENTLY happens (and by consistently, I mean the majority of games you play) is going into Construct with either a Squamata, Hedgehog, or Falco, then setting Falco and adding Beast, then tributing the Construct for the Beast. This allowed you to be able to have a set Beast and Falco (which are great against literally any match-up you face) while also being able to bring back Construct with Falco. Construct from grave is one of the best cards in the mirror and against Nekroz, because as many of you know, it doesn’t count as being from the extra deck. A Construct they can’t use Shaddoll Fusion from deck, Unicore, or Brionac is hard for either deck to deal with. Along with this play, it was ideal to also have the option to set your hand so they can’t Trishula you. With Mathematician in your deck, it was very hard to accomplish this play, especially the part where you set your hand. The deck itself is already pumping out Constructs and using Shaddoll effects. While your doing this, you have plenty of normal summons in the deck. The deck is constantly going into Construct, then using Hedgehog to search Squamata, do damage, then El Shaddoll into another Construct and get two more effects. Scepter, tribute set Beast, Falco, Hedgehog, are all great normal summons in the deck. Now, I understand Mathematician can sometimes be a better normal summon than those cards, but it’s better to normal summon the slightly less optimal one and have you be able to use all the cards in your hand than having to choose between two normal summons.   Also, the main reason we didn’t include Mathematician is just that it was overall underwhelming. We quickly realized that you are losing against Nekroz if you aren’t fusing, and Mathematician doesn’t help with that side of the deck. If you were going to play all mirrors and Satellars all day, Mathematician would be great in helping with the overall consistency of the deck. However, against Nekroz, Mathematician did absolutely nothing unless you were already fusing, and once you get to the point where you’re fusing, you never are going to not normal summon. The normal summon is just overall too important part of the deck when you’re fusing, and Mathematician just becomes cloggy and underwhelming. I hope that clears it up for all those that were doubting that specific choice.   Now, time to get into the deck. First, we’ll start off with the Shaddoll line-up. I think 3 Beast is necessary. Drawing a card is the only effect that is good in all stages of the game. You use Beast almost every turn, and go through them pretty quickly. In the mirror, tribute setting Beast is very important, and having others to use is extremely vital.   The next Shaddoll monster is Falco. Falco is great against all the top decks, and is good in majority of scenarios. It’s one you want early game (unless you brick of course), mid game, and late game. Because of that, we chose to run 3. This was sort of a last minute change (the Thursday before), because we just wanted to be able to access it as much as possible against Nekroz. I’m not sure if 3 is correct, but it wasn’t necessarily bad (by the way, this is really the only not completely thought out choice, the rest of the deck was really calculated).   Squamata is an automatic two of in this deck. Squamata isn’t actually a great Shaddoll, as it doesn’t do anything itself. It’s always just another Shaddoll. There’s no reason to run three Squamata and aggressively send it to grave. Most of the time, you just don’t send Squamata to grave unless you absolutely need it there. It’s only in the deck so you can search it for it’s 1800 body, it’s flip effect, or to use with El Shaddoll on your opponent’s turn, so you have the option of sending any Shaddoll monster. Other than that, it’s not very useful as it doesn’t actually do anything itself.   Hedgehog is very underrated. I want to stress how important two Hedgehog is. In this deck, Hedgehog is utilized to it’s full potential as we don’t run Mathematician. A lot of times you use Hedgehog to get Squamata or Dragon to fuse with. Since we use six fusions, it’s also important to have a Shaddoll that adds another Shaddoll, so you can fuse again on the same turn. Hedgehog is also the best Shaddoll monster to open with, as it unbricks your hand, allows you to search and tribute set Beast when you open a fusion, and then for the other reasons I listed above. I almost wanted to run three Hedgehog, but decided two was just the correct number as like Squamata, it adds another Shaddoll and doesn’t have it’s own effect like Beast, Falco, and Dragon do.   Dragon is by far the worst Shaddoll. It doesn’t accomplish anything on it’s own. Let me explain it this way, Shaddolls, by Yugioh deck building definition, is a combo deck. Now, it actually isn’t a combo deck, but by deck building parameters it is. What I mean by this, is that Shaddolls thrive when it has access to multiple cards. It doesn’t want to simplify the gamestate, as Shaddolls want to constantly fuse and gain advantage through their own cards. If you gain advantage just by minusing the opponent, you aren’t going to be able to accomplish much as your plays require you to have multiple cards. This is why Dragon is by far the worst Shaddoll. During the early turns, it doesn’t accomplish anything. Even if they have backrow, you would rather save Dragon for when they have a problem card or only have one backrow. You almost never want to fuse using Dragon. The only reason it’s there is to pop problem cards, as another Shaddoll effect, out problem monsters (which Squamata can also do), and for it’s 1900 body. It’s definitely necessary to the deck, but you never want to draw it. It’s n the deck strictly for utility. All these reasons are why Shaddoll Dragon is definitely a one of.   Next, for Effect Veiler. Veiler is just by far the best hand trap for this deck. Like the Star Seraphs, it’s used a lot of the time for a light monster. Construct is literally the deck, so being a light alone is a reason to max out on this card. In addition, it’s also single handedly one of the best protection cards against Nekroz, Satellarknights, and Star Seraphs. Being able to stop Beast and Falco in the miror is also extremely relevant. Stopping Trish and Brionac is a priority for this deck, and also stopping a Manju or Senju can be detrimental. This card does all of that. I see absolutely no reason why this card shouldn’t be a three of.   BLS should be obvious, every time you draw that card you win. The fact it’s a light is also just nuts.   Upstart is also not a card that I should need to explain. It literally is the same thing as having a 37 card deck, if you don’t take into account life points It’s simple, having the minimum amount of cards in your deck is more important than life points. It’s just that simple. Anyone who doesn’t understand this just doesn’t understand other basic principles of Yugioh or card game theory, I can promise you that.   Now, at first we weren’t maxing out on the fusion cards. We started with 3 El and 2 regular, the we went to 2 and 2, then back to 3 and 2, but eventually came to the conclusion that 3 and 3 is correct. After playing the other options, I would never play any less than six fusions. Like I said before, if you’re not fusing by turn two against Nekroz, you’re usually just dead. You need to get to one ASAP. I know drawing two or more fusions sucks, but it’s better to draw multiple than zero. There’s more monsters in the deck than fusions, so it’s more likely that you brick with too many monsters and not too many fusions. It’s just too important that you are able to play Yugioh against Nekroz to not max out on these cards.   The three board wipes, two Dark Hole and one Raigeki, was a concession to many things. First off, they’re our only answers to the Djinn lock if they are smart and search Trish. They are also outs to the detrimental monster floodgates Diamond, Dark Law, Majesty’s Fiend, and Vanity’s Fiend. In addition to that, they are some of the best cards in the deck against both Nekroz and the mirror match. Against Nekroz, once they find out you’re not playing Nekroz, they have absolutely no reason not to leave monsters on the field. Unicore is great against us, and being able to wipe the board against Nekroz can be great. A good strategy against Nekroz is outgrind them with Constructs and Falcos. Normally they will either be able to have a bunch of ritual spells but no monsters in hand, or they will run out of all their ritual spells. Dark Hole and Raigeki help accomplish both strategies extremely well. Against the mirror match, the board wipes are the best cards. Normally, the best field in the mirror will be a set Falco, a set Beast, and a Construct (usually from grave). Now, I understand if you were to Dark Hole them here, they would get to draw a card, get a fusion spell, and reset the Falco. However, none of these are really relevant. The last turn, they set it up to tribute set Beast. Drawing two cards and discarding one is so different from just drawing one card that I can’t even explain it. Also, they won’t have a 2200 body. Even just Dark Holing just a set Beast can be really detrimental to the opponent. In addition, getting back a fusion spell is completely irrelevant. In the mirror, you never want to leave an extra deck monster on the board. Constantly making fusions and having to tribute them off leads to a build up in fusion spells and not enough monsters to use them. The loser of the Shaddoll mirror usually ends up having 3-5 ritual spells that are just useless. This is another reason why the draw two discard one from Beast is extremely important, because you can turn a dead fusion spell into a real card. Lastly, a set Falco that has already used it’s effect is completely useless, as when you use a board wipe in the mirror, you always follow it up with killing their Falco they brought back. Any board wipe in the Shaddoll mirror is game breaking and usually game winning as well.   Foolish Burial is a card a lot of people are iffy about in their Shaddoll decks. However, I think the card is absolutely insane. Most of the time, it’s our fourth Upstart Goblin that doesn’t have the opponent gain 1000 life. Other times, it can be a ROTA, Falco, or MST. The card just has too much utility and is one of my favorite cards to see early or mid game.   Soul Charge is just an insane card. Have you read the card? I don’t think I’ve ever resolves a Soul Charge in this deck and not won the game. In addition to just bringing back Construct(s) (which is usually just game winning on its own) and other random guys, making Arcanite Magician, or making Castel, it also has great utility with the Star Seraphs (obviously lol). If you ever don’t play this card in Shaddolls you’re just insane.   Call of the Haunted is great. It has great synergy with the Star Seraph engine, and getting back Construct against Nekroz or the mirror can be really problematic for the opponent. It’s one of the best cards in the deck once you start making Constructs (which you want to do ASAP every game). It also has great utility with the three Artifact Lancea and one Thunder King Rai-Oh in the sideboard, but that’s just bonus upside the card offers. I have to give Nishaad credit for coming up with this (he also came up with the idea before it started becoming an actually thing some Shaddoll decks started running).   Solemn Scolding is something I was really against at the beginning. Nishaad is also the one to credit for this idea. Most of the time, it’s used as a Diving Wrath against the top three decks. However, it also stops Dark Hole and Raigeki, fusion spells, etc. Every time I drew it where I didn’t brick, I straight up won the game. The card is literally insane. It goes extremely well with the rest of the deck, as Call of the Haunted and Vanity’s Emptienss are continuous, so it doesn’t conflict. If you need to use El Shaddoll Fusion, you can set both and then activate it during the opponent’s draw phase, immediately turning on Scolding. If you don’t want to use it then you can just set both cards and wait until you use El Shaddoll, then you have Scolding live. Also, after you sideboard, a floodgate plus Scolding is the most insane thing ever. The card is so good I can’t even put it into words. It’s also not expected, which actually makes it near impossible to lose when you draw it.   Vanity’s Emptiness is obvious. The card should get banned. You just have to use it more conservatively now. All you do is wait until you have board control, then you set it. Once you start doing this, you won’t lose a game you draw this card (assuming you didn’t completely brick).   I want to bring up why we didn’t run the card Shaddoll Core. We went back and forth on this card for quite some time, but ended up opting not to run it. Against Satellar, it’s great obviously being able to add Shaddoll Fusion back and keeping pressure. Against the mirror it can be good by allowing you to not run out of fusion materials. However, the one problem is drawing it. I know that sounds like a bad reason, but literally every single time you draw it against Nekroz, you lose. The deck already has problems about drawing a fusion but not enough monsters or monsters without a fusion. The -1 this card brings to your hand when you draw it is almost ALWAYS enough to lose you the game on the spot to Nekroz. We decided that the very slight upside it gave you against the other match-ups was just not worth it compared to the downside of what happens when it’s bad.   The last thing I want to talk about the main deck is opting to not main deck Mistake. Now, I understand Nekroz is the best deck and we would play a lot of it. However, the deck needs to be as streamline as possible. I felt the deck is overall good enough to win game one against Nekroz without main decking Mistake. The inconsistencies the cards brought to the other match-ups was just too high of a cost to main deck this card. I wanted to make the deck as streamlined and consistent game one as possible against all the decks of the field, rather than the deck just be Mistake or bust against Nekroz and praying you don’t draw Mistake against the other match-ups. Now, I know some people will say that it’s not terrible because it’s good against Satellars too. Now, first off I expected to play a lot more mirrors than Satellars, and about equal amount of rogue as Satellars, which was all true. The way this deck loses to Satellars is just drawing an awkward hand and losing to their beaters. Mistake doesn’t help with that problem at all. Cutting a Deneb search or two won’t make or break the game. It is far more important to be able to use Hedgehog to search another Shaddoll against them, so when you have a Winda, if they do something to it you can chain El Shaddoll and make another Winda. That play is extremely vital to beating Satellars and even with Mistake on the board, sometimes they can just cut your resources if you aren’t able to make that specific play.   I won’t dive too much into the extra deck, just a couple things. I’m going to bullet it so it’s faster:   -Three Constructs is necessary, you make three almost every game. -You can run two or three Windas. You only make three when you don’t have access to a light, but I found by the time you would make a third, most of the time you’ve found a light. -The only earths for Shekhinaga in the deck are Leo and Goyo, but I found you make it a lot when you make Leo and then add back El Shaddoll to do a lot of damage or go for game. -Castel is mainly for Soul Charge, but sometimes comes up with flip summon + normal summon or call + normal summon. -Illuminknight I already explained. -Ouroboros is great when they have a fusion you want to return to the extra, only one mirror in grave, or are low on hand resources, but isn’t made much outside of that. -Delteros is obvious, shouldn’t have to say much about that. -I feel Diamond is essential. The extra deck isn’t tight enough to not warrant one spot for an auto-win in the mirror match. It’s literally a free win just by sacrificing one extra deck spot. -Goyo is just there for a level 6 (obviously lol). It doesn’t come up much, but when it does it’s crucial to have one. -Arcanite is obvious. It’s made very often after you do the turn one set Beast and Falco play and when you Soul Charge. -Black Rose isn’t actually that obvious. You barely make it against any of the match-ups, it just doesn’t come up as often as you would think. I was running Daigusto Emeral over it for quite some time for the long mirror match games or games where it was good to put back Seraphs so you can Seraph combo again, but in the end just decided I’d rather put in Black Rose so I don’t lose one random game to rogue or Satellar just because I don’t have it. I would get so mad at myself if that happened. -Leo is made very often as a 3100 beater that allows you to get back El Shaddoll Fusion to usually push for game, and if not, definitely a lot of damage. It can also just randomly win the game sometimes in certain match-ups, but that doesn’t happen very often.   I hope that explains everything I need to for the extra deck. Anyways, now on to the sideboard. I’m going to start off each section by explaining how I sideboard for each match-up, then explain why we sideboard that way and why the cards I chose are there.   Against the mirror: -1 Effect Veiler -1 Shaddoll Fusion +1 Vanity’s Fiend +1 Mind Control   We only sided two card in for the mirror. I know it doesn’t seem like many, but we actually don’t have that many bad cards against the mirror. Effect Veiler is pretty bad, but I feel like it’s necessary to keep in at least two just as a concession to the Star Seraphs. It also can sometimes come in clutch against an important Falco or a Beast, but it’s generally a very situational card in the match-up you never really want to see more than one of.   In regards to Shadoll Fusion, like I said before, the mirror often ends up going kind of late, and the way you lose is having too many fusions. You have a lot more turns to find a fusion card, so it’s better to sacrifice the small percentage early game of opening a fusion to get the late game advantage of not getting too fusion flooded. It’s a lot better to draw two El Shaddolls than it is to draw two regular Shaddolls, so this is why I side out the regular one.   Mind Control has always been known to be one of the best cards in the Shaddoll mirror. Often times if you steal a Falco, Beast, or even a Hedgehog (in certain scenarios), which denies the opponent the effect they thought they were going to get and give you for free, usually wins the game on the spot.   For the second card in the mirror, I wanted to side a card that would be a free win if it stuck on the board. The only two cards I could think of are Vanity’s Fiend or Majesty’s Fiend. To solve this, I posted a debate in the Facebook group of Vanity’s Fiend vs. Majesty’s Fiend. In the end, we decided that Vanity’s Fiend was overall better as BLS, Soul Charge, three level fours, and the fusions all out Majesty’s Fiend. Also, Mind Controlling Majesty’s Fiend and fusing just seemed like an auto-lose we didn’t need, even if it’s not very likely. The only downside to Vanity’s Fiend was if people ran Mathematician into Peropero. However, it’s very likely that Mathematician would be summoned before Vanity’s Fiend came down, so it was unlikely they had one once it did. Also, people think Majesty’s is better because Squamata and Dragon are searchable. The thing is, they are very rarely going to be able to be searched out if the opponent can’t fusion summon, and also they would’ve probably also been used for other purposes before Vanity’s Fiend came down, so it’s unlikely they saved one in hand.   Against Satellars: -1 Shaddoll Beast -1 El Shaddoll Fusion -2 Call of the Haunted -2 Solemn Scolding -1 Vanity’s Emptiness +1 Thunder King Rai-Oh +3 Mystical Space Typhoon +3 Royal Decree   You don’t really need three Beast against Satellars, as you almost never tribute set it. You only use it to make Winda most of the time, and sending it off Construct doesn’t happen as often because it’s often better to send Falco, and even then Construct doesn’t come up as much since Winda is so good in this match-up. The traps obviously come out because we transitional side into Decree, and we don’t want any card conflictions. MST is to out floodgates, which is the most common way they beat us, and Thunder King is just another light that can occasionally give us a free win. El Shaddoll comes out because like the mirror, we aren’t as stressed to fuse early, we can give ourselves a little more leeway. I’m siding out a Shaddoll so I want to keep the count somewhat even. However, unlike the mirror, regular Shaddoll Fusion is a lot better than El in this match-up since Satellars use the extra deck a lot more.   The main plan against Satellars is to set-up Winda + Decree as fast as possible, and Veiler their power play if they get over it. If you draw Decree in this match-up or can spam Windas, it’s pretty hard to lose this match-up.   Against Nekroz: -3 Star Seraph Scepter -3 Star Seraph Sovereignty -1 Shaddoll Beast -1 Shaddoll Dragon +3 Artifact Lancea +1 Thunder King Rai-Oh +1 Vanity’s Fiend +3 Mistake   Now, this is where the sideboard plan starts getting weird. Against Nekroz, the easiest way to beat them is with cards that shut them down. This means that post-board, we get to side into an anti-Nekroz deck. Now, the Star Seraphs are still great in this match-up, don’t get me wrong, but what’s even better than the Star Seraphs are just a bunch of cards that say Nekroz can’t play. The only way we can side in all these cards that beat Nekroz is if we side out the Star Seraphs. If you were to not side out the Star Seraphs, you would either have to side out a lot of consistency cards, or side a lot less for Nekroz. Both of these options just seem a lot worse than boarding out a good light engine for an even better one, then siding into all anti-Nekroz cards. This way, you don’t lose the consistency of the deck while also being able to sideboard into literally an entire anti-Nekroz deck. Now, some might think that it could be bad since we are siding out six light monsters for four light monsters, but the deck already had more light monsters than it needed to begin with. Also, if you don’t open a light but open a card like Mistake, it kind of makes up for it. But mainly the light count isn’t a factor since we already get to run so many.   Now, I know a lot of you guys are going to respond asking why I didn't just main the cards I'm siding in instead of the Seraphs. Again, it's not the the Seraphs are bad against Nekroz, it's just that I'd rather have an anti-Nekroz deck than a Star Seraph deck with couple floodgates post-board. I wanted to keep the deck as streamlined and consistent as possible against any deck game 1. The Star Seraphs are still the best light engine, allowing you to get free wins against any deck if you happen to open one of a couple two card combos. It's just that since I'm siding into literally an anti-Nekroz deck, I have to side out my light engine into another light engine that's slightly better so I don't ruin the consistency of the deck.   That’s it for the deck explanation. I hope you guys found it helpful. Now, Ginger got 3rd at ARG Richmond with the deck, but his was three cards different in the main, and one in the sideboard. These were his changes: -1 Shaddoll Beast +1 Allure of Darkness -2 Solemn Scolding +2 Fiendish Chain Sideboard: -1 Mind Control +1 Secret Village   Now, I can explain why he did these things, but I’m not going to say I 100% agree with them.   He wanted to run Allure of Darkness because he wanted to maximize the chances of drawing a fusion card. I can agree with this logic, I’m just not sure if a Beast is the card I would cut for it.   He ran Fiendish over Scolding for two simple reasons. First, if you draw if with the most common turn one play of setting Beast and Falco, you can set your whole hand and still activate Fiendish. I can get behind this reasoning, it makes sense. I’m actually just not sure yet if it’s worth all the upside that Scolding gives you. Also, it’s a good draw against an established field. If they have a monster, sometimes Fiendishing it later can come in clutch (thus why it’s better than Breakthrough Skill). Again, I think it’s a great card, I’m not not quite sure yet if these reasons outweigh the upside and versatility Scolding gives you.   For the sideboard, he cut Mind Control for Secret Village. Now, Secret Village is an unreal card, and probably one I should’ve included 1-2 copies of in my deck myself, but I definitely don’t think Mind Control is the card I would cut for it. I would probably cut a Lancea for one, then play Majesty’s over Vanity’s Fiend to keep the light count the same. Thanks for reading everyone, hope you liked it!   4. So this weekend I heard Kirwan's Game Store (aka the best local in the northeast) was having a regional, so I decided to go. My buddy Chris and I drove 3 hours with mi Madre to get there, and we pulled up at 8, and registered. The tournament began at 1230 (of course) so I decided to get ripped off on a fortune tune, pick up a spellground to look like even more of a douche than I already did, and met up with the meme master aka Mike Albanese and Steed aka Chris LeBlanc. For the event I decided to play BA because it was the best deck of the format and I like really wanted a top (shoutout to Zach McLaughlin for letting me use the deck, you da real MVP). I toyed with it for a day or two and came up with this trash Monstahs 9 BA 3 TGU 3 methmatician 3 raiza BLS -no veiler: I just hate that thing so much. Like its just such an awful card. Dante sheds enough light for bls to be live Spells 3 upstart goblin foolish allure -allure isn't even that good really, I like always sided it out -foolish helps turn 1 plays a ton but I sided it out from time to time -no supply squaaa: so my idea with this card is that like its a good card, but it doesn't contribute to anything the deck lacks. It has draw power, and a lot of people purposely play into their own squads to draw, and go minus anyways. Looking back, I might have played it, but i was never in a situation when I needed it. Trap Houses 3 wind blast 3 karma cut 3 emptiness 3 trap stun (this card is absolutely stupid and a win condition) 2 BTS 1 compuls 1 warning (always sided it out) Typical BA extra, with 2 dante 3 downerd, no astral force because the card is essential a minus and never accomplishes anything the deck can't already do by itself. Side: 2 vanitys fiend (the sole reason why I didnt bubble) 1 mobius (sole reason why I won round 1) 2 back to square one 3 MST (mediocre, only sided a copy in like twice) 1 raigeki- sided in twice, never pulled it off :( 2 chain disappearance 2 mind crush 2 dust tornado ( honestly should've replaced them with end pieces of bread because they were about that useful) Now lets get the tourney: R1 against satellar, based tucker lau g1 he starts off with ukulele and no call or soul charge so I win G2 he savages me late game with soul charge for 4 and I topdeck a raiza G3 we go into time, he has a backrow and no field with a searched altair. I make alucard to pop the alpha, he topdecks vega and I mind crush calling altair for the win R2-green shirt guy with BA G1 I go first and make double dante set 3 search cir at ep, so that pretty much means win G2 he starts off slow with like 3 sets, I draw double chain disappearance scarm karma wind blast trap stun. He doesn't play trap stun so I win R3-black shirt guy with BA G1 has the dragons for my emptiness wind blasts for my dantes etc etc and I make a last ditch temtempo play and get karma'd G2 double dante followed by triple downerd next turn backed by trap stuns is cool I guess. He makes a acid golem I think and I flash BLS for game G3 made tweetie bird aka the birdhouse in time and sat on an emptiness and rode into the sunset on it R4-glasses with yang zing Loved the kid, hated the match G1 he goes math into some archfiend thing and sets creation emptiness and has a soul charge. I dont have trap stun :( G2 I try to deck him out after he makes a godzilla thought ruler that has like 628287 different properties but I realize I have like 13 less cards in deck than he does and go cry 3-1 at this point R5-beard guy with shaddoll G1 I keep spinning his raidens with raiza and he mills 3 fusions. yeet G2 I don't draw into back to square one or vanitys fiend and he just goes nuts and sends his whole deck to grave G3 he has a hand of like 6 cards he always keeps in his hand and I have no reads on them. He rips a charge and drops his whole hand of white+black dragons and chaos monsters and makes leo thought ruler baby dragon for game gotta go fast and win 4 matches to top Chris dropped at this point RIP R6- cool guy with batterymen, not azad surprisingly G1 emptiness> batterymen G2 ^ R7-kid my age with batterymen G1 dante set 4 search tour guide, emptiness his reborn and his tribute summon guy G2 he locks me out with a macro and my own emptiness, no trap stuns in sight G3 he draws 3 fuel cells and I have the trap stun for call on his 9V and I ride fullmetal alchemist aka downerd magician to victory 5-2 at this point, nervous as hell because im a sheer noob and this was kind of a big deal to me R8-cool guy who sounded like Jordan Peele with disaster hieratic dragon ruler REDMD soul charge deck ft. Koaki meiru drago G1 drago makes it so I cant play G2 I karma cut his dragos and emptiness becomes my best friend after I wind blast his hieratics G3 I strap on my saddle, put my feet in the stirrups, kick my vanitys fiend in the ass, and ride that bastard like the lone ranger into round 9. Messed up way for him to go tbh R9-red sweatshirt guy with shaddoll G1 I keep spinning his cards to topdeck and never lose advantage even after he super polys m G2 tour guide resolves 3 times, he keeps setting a hedgehog and I keep wind blasting/raizaing it until he offers the handshake and I stop hyperventilating Finished 7-2, 12th place. First invite because im noob and I got 4 cheeseburgers at mcdonalds on the way back so I mean it couldn't get much better Shoutouts to mike albancheese getting eighth, tim leduc getting seventh, joe bogli coming back hot and getting first.   5. Hey guys, I'm new to DGZ. Some of you may know me as the Asian from youtube on TeamSacky. Im a junior at UIUC.    Anyway, this past weekend at the TInley Park Reginals  I placed top 4 with this    Pretty much standard dragunity rulers. If there's anything to note, it would be that Thought Ruler over Gaia Charger. Gaia Charger was only for the OTK and to punish bad players in time. But If you have the OTK, you'll prolly win w.o Gaia Charger and Thought Ruler seems better in time so...Never missed Gaia Charger   If I had to make any changes, it would be -1 Skill Drain, +1 D.D Crow. Skill Drain was for Evilswarm/Constellar/Rogue But Evilswarms can play around Skill Drain and it sucks vs a field already set up by constellars. I guess it's still good for Rogue so I'll keep it. Crow shuts down every viable play in Dragunity Ruler and searchable by Gae Dearg. Def shoulda played 2.    HTS Psyhemuth sucked. Everytime I made it under Maxx C I lost that game anyway. I guess it's an out to random crap like Key Beetle + Safe Zone but ehhh idk. Needs more testing.   Anyway, I wake up at 6:30 with about 3.5 hours of sleep. I end up going to the convention center with 3 other people from our Yugioh Club. It takes us about 2 hours to get there and registration ends at 9:45. We get there at 9, and I was the only one to fill out my decklist. So I take the time to borrow a few cards and meet up with friends I haven't seen in a long time.  Tournament Starts...All i really want is an invite. I hate going to regionals. There's about 450 people.  Round 1 Vs. Raul (Fire Kings) 2-0 Game 1: He wins the die roll but its fire kings... Game 2: I was probably going to win anyway but I resolved triple Reckless and resolved sex sense for 4 all on the same turn so...lulz   1-0   Round 2 vs. Carlos (Fire Kings) 2-0 (What is up with these mexicans and their fire kings lol jk) Game 1: It's Fire kings... Game 2: I open up complete crap but all he can do is poke with a Yaksha. Eventually I make stardust to bait out his traps and then after I baited the last one, I made a board that would OTK him, but after I killed the Yaksha, he destroys the ccarayhua Earthbound Immortal and blows my field. Luckily I still have stardust and backrow so i end up winning but still, coolest play this weekend.    2-0   Round 3 vs. White Marcus (Constellars) 2-1 Game 1: Funny thing is, I meet this guy for the first time about 5 minutes before this round started and he knows what I'm playing. He's chill though and tells me he's not playing draongs. Well I go first so I guess it doesn't really matter. I open stardust set 2. He doesn't get over my board so I summon a second dux and he brain farts. He tries bottomlessing my Dux and when I activate stardust, he tries compulsing my stardust, forgetting stardust is a cost lulz. I win from there.  Game 2: He opens Thunder king and when I finally get over it without negging myself too hard it's too late.  Game 3: I use one turn to set up and he makes pleidas. Luckily I had compuls and then make stardust. He eventually gets over it and when I try to make a counter push, he flips iron wall but I held MST the whole time like a champ. I then sixth sense, he rolls a 1, and i mill redox off of it, which was my third color. We wish each other luck and meet up after every round telling each other to win out haha. He ends up going x-3 though =.=   3-0 Round 4 vs. ?? (Trigon Dragons) 1-2 Game 1: Idk who this guy is but i've seen him around the Chicago Area. He goes first and opens the double dracossack play. I try to sixth sense but he rolls a 2 lol.   Game 2: I open Stardust + Iron wall Game 3: We both open really poorly but he has Return so he wins. I tired resolving a sixth sense earlier too but he rolls a 1. This guy is a champ haha.    3-1   Round 5 vs. Black Marcus (Mirror Match) 2-1 Game 1: He goes first but only opens three sets. I make a stardust with warning set thinking I have this. Then he flips double reckless. It becomes a grind game after that but I eventually win out cuz I read a bottomless. I raigeki breakd the bottomless, made scrap dragon, popped the mirror force, and won from there.  Game 2: He opens the derrppppp. With double Mysteltainn. I try to fight back but he makes Thought Ruler and I had all my target backrow stuff.  Game 3: I open the M7 + Stardust play and then knowing how broken thought ruler was, made my own and then he had all his target backrow stuff. I forget how, but he eventually resolves double reckless again and gets over my board. I read a mirror force and pop it with dracossack before atking with colossal fighter over his stuff and it was gg from there.    4-1   Round 6 vs. Jialun (MIst valley Apex Avian Stun) 2-1 Game 1: This is the guy that drove me here and goes to club with me =( Well he goes first and open the nuts with Apex Avian and 3 backrow with the Mist valley field spell on board. I have no access to Ravine and try baiting out Apex Avian's eff with sex sense on the atk and try mirror forcing but he has safe zone so gg.  Game 2: I take one turn to set up a play but end up setting decree. So when he flips ninjitsu art, i flip decree...the thing is though that it's his decree so I feel terrible T_T he jokes about it for the rest of the day but I legit felt bad. I end up giving him the top 4 deckbox haha Game 3: He can't Apex Avian first turn so I CoCd Twice, Sacred sworded, Gold Sarcd, and opened the Wombo Combo on him.    5-1   Round 7 vs. ?? (Mirror Match) 2-1 Game 1: We get deck checked for like 15 minutes. He's a really cool guy though so we talk about the horrors of deck checking and he says the judge that's deck checking us has a thing against him. They come back and he gets a game loss for hobby league cards, a card in his calculator case (bullcrap), and he forgets to list two cards in his extra =(.  Game 2: He's playing the Zephyros, Garuda, REDMD build and opens the nuttiest of nuttiest wombo combos. My hand is okay but I end up deciding to scoop because I didn't want him to know what I was playing Game 3: I save my ravine and just set three knowing I can stop any play he makes at me. He plays his ravine and I stop his dux play. I then play my ravine, make the m7 + stardust play and win from there.    6-1   Round 8 vs. ?? (Constellars) 2-0 Game 1: I always chat with the people around me including my opponent before a match. I find out this is his first regionals and was surprised he was doing so well for a first timer. He goes first and plays tenki into kaus....and normals kaus. I get beaten down for two turns and he just has Kaus, tenki, and a backrow and poked for two turns. I eventually just overwhelm him when I get set up after that.  Game 2: I deserved to lose this game but he deserved to lose like 2x harder. He makes first turn Pleidas and I had the compuls. I set 4 and he bounces mst end phase with pleidas. He then summons pollux -> a second kaus. For some reason i thought omega onnly protected itself so I didnt compuls the pleidas X_X. I eventually risk a reckless which pays off and then I get over his board. I still had no ravine and dux plays though so he summons the 700 searcher thing and beats me down with it for 2 turns when im under reckless. and then two more turns after that until I finally had ravine. I got phalanx, CoCd, Got another Phalanx, played my second CoC. Then I summoned Dux. On the SUMMON he decides to crow a phalanx, forgetting I had another Phalanx =.= gg 7-1   Round 9 Vs. Conor (Mirror Match) 2-1 Game 1: As soon as I sit down he calls me SexyAsianMan. I didn't recognize him but he reminds me we met at nats and hung out with his friend that top 32d Nationals 2 years ago with inzektors haha. Well thank god i win the die roll cuz it's the mirror. Game 1 I upstart twice into Dracossack + Atum + Scrap Dragon. I didn't have backrow protection, just a reckless so I made scrap. Luckily he couldn't really do anything and scoops.  Game 2: He goes first and opens the wombo combo. I fight back with my ravine, destroying his and loading dragons into the grave and summoning them, trying to bait out his traps. He eventually draws another ravine and plays it. I was low at that point so I try MSTing, hoping he negates with stardust so I'll live. He does, but then removes stardust for dragons and I know he has return but I had mirror force. Unfortunately his grave was loaded with enough dragons to make enuf dmg on the board without return for game so I mirror force his board, and he flips return, so gg.  Game 3: I open M7 + stardust and he goes equally hard back at me. I forget what happens exactly but I start winning the grind game cuz I was the last one with ravine on the field. He eventually has one card in hand to my scrap Dragon + sixth sense facedown. He draws, sets a backrow, and ends and I debate what to call with sixth sense. I had no more duxes left in deck so i only wanted dragons but i was afraid if I called 3/4 I wouldn't get good cards since most of em were gone...So i compromise for the 4/5 call, and he rolls a 5. He auto scoops and we check the next 3 cards in his deck and it wouldn't have mattered. But I drew a huge sigh of relief when he rolled that 5 haha.    So I end up finishing 4th going x-1. One of my buddies finishes undefeated with standard dragons maining 3 mst so props to him. The car ride back was so exhausting cuz everyone was dead tired haha. Everyone else went X-3. Only one of em got their invite. WIth infernities of all the decks haha.  Pros: Top 8 Got the sexy star eater mat Met up with a bunch of old friends Got my invite, no more regionals for a year =) Cons: I hate wasting a whole day on yugioh.  I HAVE SO MUCH HOMEWORK WHY AM I TYPING THIS   Thanks for reading =)
