  1. …and people complain that Burning Abyss have overstayed their welcome. Lightsworns have come a long way since their introduction in 2008, when the deck revolved around drawing into and setting up Judgment Dragon. Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn not only gave the deck a much better outlet for milling during its main phase, but as a tuner it opened up a variety of Synchro options for the deck. Far more important, though, is the release of Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn, a Rank 4 Xyz which allows the deck to generate massive advantage from its milling mechanic beyond just getting lucky milling Wulf or setting up JD. Unfortunately, Minerva’s only release in the TCG thus far has been as a YCS prize card, but players with access to it also have access to a deck with incredibly strong potential plays that is surprisingly consistent for how heavily it focuses on sending random cards to the graveyard. These are the best options for Lightsworn monsters to run in the main deck. The level 4 Lightsworns’ biggest issue is that they’re either normal summons, or cannot be summoned from the hand easily at all, so the rest of the deck has to be structured around accommodating such subpar cards. Speaking of bypassing normal summon limitations, Gem-Knight Seraphinite is a more than perfect solution. As a bonus, Performage Trick Clown provides fairly constant board presence for the deck. Other enablers for Synchro/Xyz plays. Goblindbergh isn’t always played, but it gives the deck an option to summon Felis or Wulf in hand. Fairy Tail – Snow arguably contributes just as much, if not more, than Minerva to Lightsworn decks’ recent success. It’s usable from anywhere, at any time, making it not only a combo enabler but also an interactive play on the opponent’s turn. Lightsworns perfectly complement her difficult-to-meet but minimal summoning cost, as without Judgment Dragon the deck doesn’t actually need to keep all of its cards in the graveyard at all times. Other options: Zombie engine -Uni-Zombie -Mezuki -Shiranui Solitaire Galaxy Soldier for access to Cyber Dragon Infinity and Constellar Pleiades
  2. My friends are going to make fun of me for writing a report for a regional, but I don't really care; I like writing about Yugioh. My friend Tim told me the Tuesday before I think that there was a regional in Brooklyn that Sunday and that we were going, which I had no problem with considering I've only been to one regional since nats and want to get my invite out of the way so I don't have to go to more regionals (I hate going to regionals btw.) Anyways.   Pre-Tournament   Saturday I head up to Tim's where I meet up with him and Kenny. We hit up a local in Worcester, me and Tim were in finals then were just gonna dip cus idc about store credit and I wanted sleep but the T.O and store owner gave us some shit for no reason and we pooled the credit for a box. Got back to Tim's place where we met up with Arthur, opened the box (shit,) made our decks then crashed.   I decided to use the BA list I have been no-lifing on DN maining all 18 Burning Abyss monsters. I didn't actually want to main any discard traps, or side Flying "C," but it was late and I was mad tired and just decided to take what I already had and what I played enough to be confident in. I'll pic it at the end and discuss it more in-depth there.   Woke up, showered etc, to Brooklyn. Our car is Kenny Reeves, Tim Leduc, Arthur Thanasi, and myself. 3 hours, not that bad and our car rides usually go by really fast due to chatting. We roll up to one of those bar-the-window-type neighborhoods. Park forever away, walk over and they let us into this hole-in-the-wall convention hall that looked like shit but had really nice chandeliers, it was so out of place (would have pic'd if phone didn't die) Sleeved, signed up, met up with some friends (Nick, Rob, Stephen, everyone,) etc. Me and Stephen took some commons sitting on the table and rolled for fun to pass the time then the T.O walked over and gave us shit for "gambling" lmao.   A little bit after that something unreal happened. These two guys sitting next to us were trading and this judge walks over and tells them they aren't allowed to trade here. Eventually they clarify via microphone that you can, in fact, trade in the building, but not near 1. the vendor tables, 2. the entrance, or 3. their little snack stand. I don't own cards so I didn't really care but it sounded ridiculous. Btw, I didn't have sleeves so I gave my entry packs to Stephen for PC whites because I just don't care and he pulled a disk lol.   Also at some point after I get there, I verify with the head judge how Royal Command will be played today. He said because it was changed in the official card database, we will play under the new errata.   Round 1: BA Mirror (Karl A, table 76.) Die Roll: Win   Before I get into this round, I want to note that we were supposed to sit on this table next to a clumped out pull-out wall that my opponent would have to sit inside of, like his own little box. The people on either side wouldn't even have anywhere to sit (and apparently they ran out of paper, lamination, and ink because our table was the only one with cardboard from a Yoplait box with a 76 written in Sharpie on it. They eventually complain to the judges and we move the table and play elsewhere and it holds up the round like half an hour because none of them knew what to do about the extremely simple situation. 269 people, 9 rounds (as announced.) Finally they begin.   Game 1: It's his first time playing the deck, so he doesn't really know what he's doing. At one point he summons Tour Guide, uses its effect, and summons Tour Guide from deck. This puzzles me until later when I summon Tour Guide into a BA and he asks me why it doesn't die. There isn't much to say here, I just play my cards right and win.   Game 2: See Game 1.   Alright guy. In between Round's 1 and 2 I meet emnm from DGz, really chill guy and we're prob rooming for YCS Charleston at the end of January. Also, in between most of the rounds I went outside to get some fresh air because it was savage as fuck in that tiny room. A few times I walked over to this store called Key Food across the street to get a drink, and the place looked as presentable as the supermarket from the first level of Gears of War 3.    1-0   Round 2: Shaddoll (Ariel M, Table 41.) Die Roll: Loss   Game 1: He goes first, sets four and passes. I play a bunch of Yugioh on my turn and end with a board of like Dante Virgil and Scarm for Tour Guide in ep. At one point he activates Sinister Shadow Games and sends Squamata then Beast, then just decides not to activate Beast I guess. At the end of the match I asked about it and he said he drew, but I swear he had one in hand and drew to two for turn afterwards (after just setting four and passing turn one.) I kill him next turn.   Game 2: He bricks again, and I kill him relatively quickly.   Alright guy, IDK about the Beast thing though.   2-0   Round 3: Qliphort (Eric L, Table 22.) Die Roll: Loss   Game 1: He goes first, summons Helix, equips Saqliphort, sets 3 and passes. I make Virgil on Saqlifice, he Skill Drains and I MST. He chains Chalice on the Virgil. Next turn I Alucard his other backrows, then he gets to Tool and has a field of Disk, Tool and Carrier in Pendulum Zones, and nothing else. I crash a Dante to add back Lake then Tour Guide to make it live. Next turn I Fire Lake him and he's out of cards.   Game 2: He goes first, and I look at an opening hand of 4 BA and Tour Guide and know if he sees any traps and my top card isn't MST for only one of them, I lose. He just goes Tool > Carrier, Summons it, equips Saqliphort and passes with 0 backrow. I draw a 5th BA, summon Tour Guide, and he Maxx C's. I know I lose if I pass, so I ignorantly go for game and let him draw a billion and it gets me there (Dante Virgil on Carrier, Acid.)   Pretty cool guy. At the start of the round this guy sitting diagonal to me complains about my deck not being original as a joke, I only bring this up because he happens to be my next opponent.   3-0   Round 4: BA Mirror (Abraham C, Table 11.) Die Roll: Win   Game 1: We go back and forth for like 25 minutes until I'm finally in an advantageous position with 5 cards to his two that he drew to. I hadn't gotten in much damage and that point though. He plays Soul Charge and wins.   Game 2: I fuck up and lose quickly.   He was pretty chill, except at one point and game 1 he was complaining about an MST I had since turn one because he thought I top decked it. Anyway, I knew I didn't do anything to deserve winning this match because I didn't play perfectly, which bothered me a little but oh well.   3-1   Round 5: Satellarknight (Derrick S, Table 16.) Die Roll: Loss   Game 1: He goes first and summons a Tellar guy and sets some backrows. We go back and forth and eventually I put enough for game on board so that if I draw any monster I can kill him on my last turn, and it was Tour Guide. Not much to here, except at one point he does Soul Charge to keep him in the game at very little cards, this will be a repetitive theme in this report if you cannot already tell.   Game 2: He let's me go first. I make two Dante set a backrow and prepare my victory speech. MST my set, Vega SS Deneb for Altair, make Dweller. Use Dweller's effect, Raigeki my board. Set pass. I make another board attacking over the Dweller. Next turn, he legit summons Metaion the Timelord and fucks me up then Triverr's next turn for the win. He also Soul Charges through my minimal backrow at one point, where I thought I could just kill him next turn.   Game 3: My hand is monster heavy going first, I make a board with Dantes and shit but with floating materials to help deal with Metaion if he plays it. He Dark Holes then attacks for some damage. Next turn I make another board, and he Raigekis. Eventually we get to a point where I lake the last of his monsters then add back a Cir to attack for game.   Decent guy, but he complained when I drew the Tour Guide game 1 and I explained how it could have literally been any BA to overlay with my on-board Cir for the same result. I actually don't think complaining about the game itself is almost ever actually justified, if not, never, but that's a rant for another day, targeting the player base as a whole.   4-1   Round 6: BA Mirror (Daniel L, Table 13.) Die Roll: Win   Game 1: We go back and forth for like 20 minutes until it gets to a point where I cut off his floating and am in decent control of the game with 5 cards to his drawing to 2. BLS Soul Charge.   Game 2: I just make Dante and Traps t1 and he can't really get a foot in this game.   Game 3: I see 2 Wing Blast to deal with his Vanity's Fiend while I'm getting damage in and he's at 0 cards. He draws the Vanity's and passes. I attack for more, ending with a field of Dante and Downerd with one material. I have 2 Flying C so I know he can't use the majority of his deck to win. He draws to 2... BLS banish Dante tribute summon Vanity attack over Downerd. In all honesty, the only out left in my deck was the third Wing Blast... which I drew next turn for the win.   Chill guy.   5-1   Round 7: Lightsworn (my bro Justin Diaz, Table 12.) Die Roll: Loss   Game 1: I think he's playing like BA or something, imagine my surprise when he activates Solar Recharge turn 1. Turns out he's beat 4 Shaddoll and a BA so far and he just came to yolo for fun after not playing for like a year. Anyway I have board + set Vanity so I think I'm lit... nah Lyla the Vanity foolish > Wulf SS make Dweller, detach SS JD. Blow Up field, SS JD, Felgrand detach JD to put 2 Dragons in gy for Blaster banish JD and Eclipse add JD ss JD attack for game.   Game 2: I draw Vanity's Fiend.   Game 3: He mills poorly.   Our match was pretty ignorant but fun at the same time, and it was nice catching up with you man it's been forever.   6-1   Round 8: Shaddoll (don't have name, they stopped doing online pairings the round before, Table ?) Die Roll: idr   So there was rumors that they were cutting it a round short, and if you asked a judge they would verify. On the bright side, less Yugioh and less being there. Of course, they didn't even bother announcing it... anyway my opponent looked like a taller Alex Medina kind of.   Game 1: I play monsters into his backrows and end up winning.   Game 2: I fuck up and lose, but it didn't matter cus of Super Poly.   Game 3: He bricks and I Wing Blast him to keep it that way then kill him.   Pretty chill guy.   7-1   After Swiss   Ended in 5th after swiss. If my phone didn't die I would have got a pic of standings, first was Nizar, and the only other I remember is my buddy Noah in 7th I think.    Anyway I found out why they cut a round off. So this bitch that owns the hall was getting really mad at the T.O and judge staff because she thought the tournament wouldn't take that long or some shit and she wanted us all to get out. The staff was obviously having no part of this, but they eventually agreed to cut it down a round under the pressure of her larger-than-life body guard. When we were doing the paperwork and they were finally passing out the top 8 mats, they shut the lights off on us and the judges had to illuminate us with phone flashlights. The process of getting us our prizes still took forever and the whole time the ratchet bitch was cussing at the staff and the huge bodyguard kept telling everyone to get the fuck out. The only thing that might stand out is using all 18 Burning Abyss monsters. Basically it's the highest chance of not bricking, and more monsters are good against the mirror and Qliphort. They're good against Qliphort to make sure Lake is live almost always, and they're good in the mirror to overwhelm them and play more yugioh, especially making Virgil plays a higher percentage of the time to cut off their floating. Like I said, I didn't really want to play Flying C or Wing Blast and was considering other things like Enemy Controller and Ojama Trio, but I was mad tired and knew it wouldn't be that difficult of a tournament so I just went to sleep and took what I had built.   Props: Getting my invite so I don't have to go to more regionals Meeting emnm Seeing friends Alyx winning the ARG this weekend and Phinney topping, great work gentlemen Kenny/Tim letting me borrow a deck   Slops: Everything else
  3. Imitation Inzektors

    Alright so I'll just cut straight to the list and explain the choices.     Let's start with the side deck, I suppose its one of the more interesting parts of the deck   Kaiser Colosseum - I wrote a nice little discussion on Kaiser and its applications in decks that can control and apply pressure through one monster, you can read it here : http://duelistgroundz.com/index.php?showtopic=155933   Prohibition - I use this as a side for decks that rely heavily on a single card / abuse of it. E.g. Grapha in dark worlds, and yamato in Bujins. Not too sure of how good its been to be perfectly honest, like its ok but there are times where it can be really subpar and shit to draw, but w/e.   Gozen match : For decks that run Multi-attribute : E.g. Wind-up   Rivalry : For decks that run multi-type, E.g. Wind-up   Royal Decree : Ummm, this is actually fair trash but I feel that i need a card to permanently shut down stupid decks like deep-draw exodia and chain burn.   Imperial Iron Wall : Dragons, and any other deck that relies on banishing stuffs.   Please suggest stuff for the sidedeck its incomplete and needs help :).   Also while we are here, the extra deck   1x Dweller 1x Cowboy 1x Gaia Dragon 1x Exa-Stag 1x Chain 1x Leviar 1x Maestroke 1x Mechquipped 1x Leviathin 1x Acid Golem 1x Volca 1x Master Key Beetle 1x Photon Butterfly 1x Tiras 1x Zenmaines.   Now to the mainboard, I'm quite confident of how the deck has been testing and I'm attributing to this success because of the strength of the mainboard.   3x Centipede 3x Ladybug 2x Trooper 2x Maxx C 1x Hornet 1x Dragonfly 1x Hopper   3x Typhoon 3x Duality 3x Lance 3x Imitation 1x Book 1x Inzektor Sword 1x Foolish   3x Threatening 3x Fiendish 2x Call 1x Sixth Sense 1x Warning 1x Bottomless 1x Compulsory   Now Insect Imitation, to a person who has never seen the card before its text is as follows:   Tribute 1 monster. Special Summon 1 Insect-type monster from your Deck whose Level is 1 higher than the Tributed monster's.   Now for a full list of its applications.   Ladybug/ Maxx C becomes : Dragonfly, Hornet, Centipede Card Trooper/Dragonfly/Hornet/Centipede becomes Hopper. Hopper becomes : N/a.   So Imitation is usable on every monster except for Inzektor Hopper. Although It's best application in my opinion is by using it on an Inzektor Ladybug T1 to recruit Inzektor Dragonfly. By the way, if they chain maxx c to the imitation don't fret, rather special summon an Inzektor centipede from the deck, equip the ladybug and search out Hornet/fly/sword, no plusses for them.   Imitation also makes call more alive as you will have more monsters joining the battle thanks to imitation.   Why I don't run the Following : Dark Armed, Gorz, Giga-Mantis, Allure.   Dark Armed : This card can be trash if you open it with no monsters or if you draw it late game with far too many darks in the grave. Not to mention evilswarms are a deck.   Gorz : Triple fiendish and double coth. Evilswarms exist aswell. Not to mention that I'm not a fan of Gorz aswell, so yeah.   Allure : You really never want to banish darks from your hand unless you have searched for all of your ladybugs from centipede's effect etc, but if you have done this you are probably already winning. Allure is just a card that is only good when you are in a winning position thus making it bad.   Giga-Mantis: I honestly never like drawing this, unlike sword it is trash unless you have hornet live :/.   So What is the goal of the deck? : To search for hornet whilst having field presence and protecting it as quickly as possible. This is why triple imitation is run along with triple duality, a beautiful confliction that I unfourtunatly find neccesary to keep the consistency of the deck.   Why not run Mirror/D-prison: I prefer cards that respond to the summon as cards like fire fist bear can prove a problem for inzektors to deal with and you want them to leave the board or negate their effects rather then stop them attacking.   Why Run Lance in Dragon format : Lance is actually really cool. So you have the obvious stuff assosicated with lance stopping over s/t from affecting it and the whole damage step shenanigans, but then you have the other stuff, lance lets you get around shadow mirror and skill drain by making the inzektor monster unaffected by it and then you can pop it with hornet. Also note that you can still equip inzektors if your inzektor monster is being affected by forbidden lance, it will just not gain the ATK/DEF and levels from that Inzektor monster being equipped to it.   If there are any other questions/ suggestions please post them the sideboard is incomplete and I am looking for help to properly build it, thanks.
