Your Guide to Fantasy

Recommended Posts

If anyone wants to start a different genre, I'll be happy to pin it for you. This is for people who want to get into fantasy, but have no idea where to start. For example, Garth Nix has written 3 series, one is fantastic, one is okay, and the third is horrible. This thread is designed to help you get your foot in the door. The bottom tier are books you should steer away from--they are bad. I tried to list these from the best down to the worst.

To better suit your needs, I'll color-code these for reading difficulty. This has nothing to do with the page #

I'd heavily suggest you add Terry Pratchett's Diskworld series

Instead of being a huge dick, why don't you actually contribute instead of trolling? You're on my last nerve and anything else from you and I'll delete your account.

I suggest adding The Hobbit in blue.

It's quite possibly the BEST possible fantasy start...it's a children's book with colored pictures if you get the right copy!

I don't agree with Harry Potter being top tier. I also believe the Dark Elf Trilogy, as well as other works by R.A. Salvatore, should be top tier.

Chronicles of Narnia Middle tier below HP? Go fuck yourself Micah.

Completely fucking justified. It's just Jesus for Dummies with a really, really terrible ending.

Truth.

Also, why is His Dark Materials only middle tier.

It's probably the best fantasy series I read as a child.

yeah because there's no pagan elements to the story whatsoever. the last battle was a great book and I think the ending was fitting... it's children fucking fantasy what do you expect?

harry potter, by far, has the worst series ending ever.

I put it as middle tier because it's god awful in parts and such a chore to read when not a lot is going on. At times, it's an awesome series but other times, it's naruto filler.
