If you need a laptop

Recommended Posts

google already built three OSes, one is just a mod of ubuntu linux for internal use, one is Adroid used on cells and one is for netbooks which is still in developement (ChromeOS)

Macs are built really solid, given. The thing is -vaios don't have outstanding or in really any way notable build quality- while apple does.

yeah, i meant OS for actual computers, not cellphones.

stop verbally abusing me! i will not take this from you, Rei! i love my vaio xD

rei. i want your opinion on something. i have 1k i'd like to spend on a laptop that i will only use for video editing BUT i do not want a mac. what would you recommend? the videos i edit are 720, and i handle about 8 gigs of video at a time and the vaio i have right now lags sometimes, but never really crashes.

i would buy another vaio even though i know it's not the best spend of money. convince me to not do this. i am being completely serious.

MSP - not sure on MSI. They make okay but not exceptional motherboards and decent netbooks.

AD - if you really, REALLY like the vaio, find one with really high specs and you'll be fine - are there better alternatives? for sure, but its not like the vaios are SHIT, and if you'd be happiest with it im not going to be able to reasonably justify you buying a laptop you wont be happy with instead.

Alright, so here's my predicament. Like eight hundred people before me, I need a laptop for college next year. I don't have a enormous budget (I'd say like $800 w/warranty) and it has to be from Best Buy (b/c that's where I have gift cards for exactly this)

I'm deciding between these:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Lenovo+-+Think...tract_desc=null

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+Laptop+...p;skuId=9701931

My biggest fear is that I'm hitting that range where the computers might be better than the $500 range, but will break in a year-year and a half and I'll have spent an extra $200-300 for nothing

So I could get something like this too:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+Laptop+...p;skuId=9700714

would it be worth it to get the former even though it's still not high-end? are those thinkpad edges good?

get a macbook

$$

I'm greatly leaning toward the Lenovo after more research, but that is severely pushing my budget.

Is 2GB Ram enough for video editing? (Premiere Pro, After Effects) Or should I upgrade to 4GB?

Anything that says "ThinkPad" on it is a pretty safe purchase honestly.

Getting a laptop for college, need one that runs good and under $600. If it could game, that'd be nice too (though I don't need the super tricked-out ones, just something that can run an average computer game or mmo game).

If I could get some recommendations, that'd be great.

That is a really solid laptop. I'd probably go with the i3 version for slightly better battery life as it has integrated graphics and saves some money. The only edge the i5-450M has on the i3-350M is Turbo Boost which really isn't that big of a deal on a dual core processor.

Does anyone have any coupon codes for Sony Vaio Z-series? I am probably buying one in the next few days. inb4 "Get the Thinkpad X201" I want the dynamic graphics, superior screen, significantly better battery life, and sexy, extremely light-weight but durable chassis. RAID 0 dual SSD doesn't hurt either.
