is it really that hard for you faggots to understand that some people don't like OF and thus aren't going to go out of their way to "appreciate" something that they don't like?

Just get out of the thread. That's not constructive at all. We're discussing as to why that is. There is no reason for a fan of rap NOT to like OF. Now post some stupid shit and flame again and I will ban you.

are you fucking kidding me? your friend gave you a reason. he doesn't like the lyrics. why does he even need a reason? you can't debate someone into liking the same music as you

I have no problem if someone doesn't like them... their rap lyrics are like all rap lyrics these days, except darker and they actually use punchlines. Whoa, terrible right?

I'm not debating anyone into liking them, so stop being a hater you nigger and get out.

on the last page you guys (you/ryu) were complaining about your friends not being into OF despite your efforts to get them into it. that came along with you guys not being able to comprehend why they didn't like them and basically saying "they just don't get it!".

the fact that you guys are so adamant and not understanding how people could not like OF is just baffling to me. some people just dont like it goddamn

Yeah, and then they tell me they love Wiz Khalifa and other terrible rappers... so you could see why my brain is confused.

you cannot make any meaningful argument as to why OF is less "terrible" than Wiz (or one artist is better than another, for that matter)

actually, since rap is largely about punchlines, metaphors and rhyme scheme... I can.

Rapping was a skill people used literally to battle. It was a test to see who was better at it. Music, defined by instruments and vocalists, are always an expression and cannot be judged. Rap is a flaunting of a skill.

how do you decide what makes one metaphor better than another? what punchline is funnier/more creative?

Wordplay would be my first defense. I would say, most mainstream rappers these days have almost NO wordplay, and if it's present it's extremely obvious. Like the wordplay Earl uses that I talked about on page 5... THAT'S wordplay.

well first of all you would have to define wordplay, it's a pretty abstract, multifaceted concept. what you consider good wordplay is not the same as what i consider good wordplay. there isn't better/worse wordplay, just your preference.

There's only such a limit you can pull that card. There is more clever wordplay than others, whether you believe it's better or worse. Also, my point still stands that alot of rap was defined by good wordplay and things like it in the 90s and early 2000's.

I mean, how many current mainstream rappers use wordplay besides Kanye, maybe Lupe and Eminem (who I think sucks now in his current mainstream form, i'm not talking about old Eminem who was godly)? And I mean mainstream mainstream, MTV mainstream and radio mainstream, not "Yeah i've heard of MosDef" mainstream.

T.I.'s and Wayne's (bar a few) are simplistic as fuck. I don't know about Jay Z because I dislike his flow.

I didn't say I didn't like him, I don't even think he's bad... I just never really listened to him. Mostly because everything he's made that's been over commercialised in Australia is what i've heard is the bad parts of his latest work. We don't get as much Jay Z hype here in AUS, so goodness if I know what is an essential listen from Jay Z. OF however is the same continent length away, and blowing up in clubs and shit already.

god you're a faggot. some people have better taste in music than others, this kindergarten everyone's opinions are equal bullshit isn't going to fly bro, i can understand playing the devil's advocate on this but seriously believing it is just stupid. my post that got hive-negged is true shit. some rappers are just better than others in terms of wordplay and delivery. someone who's listened to more rap and is a more well rounded fan probably has better taste than someone who just listens to radio rap. THIS IS TRUE. sorry if you can't handle it.

and I know OF are good rappers, so when my friends listen to one or two songs and just conclude that the entire collective sucks, it confuses me. kinda like what juggalo said, when they like shit such as mike jones but then say rappers like earl suck, i think a valid judgment of their taste can be made, that it sucks.

if you really want to know why some metaphors are more effective/creative than others you should look up some stuff about poetry, you know, that thing thats an essential component of rap that's also been in our human history for centuries, where scholars and literary experts characterize certain poets and works as good/bad and understand a writer's/work's merit based on actual skill/substance. if you wrote a paper claiming you were the best poet of all time you'd get laughed out of academia (Do you get it now?)
