Sent this in to be published along with a couple of others I liked.

Materiel

Behind me, I hear them, they squawk and gawk,

Of metal and plastic inconsequence,

All of it useless, idle talk,

Of brief meaningless sex and recompense.

So far away, and far from thought,

In the land of which we talk no more,

Bombs guns and men, privately bought,

Murder and pillage from door-to-door.

Consume and conform and close your eyes,

Think not of the lifeless and the dying,

Deafen your ears and ignore their cries,

Drown them; drown them all with your lying.

In the village by day or by night,

The men take things to which they have no right.

Dead dreams, dead children litter broken streets.

In the village by day or by night,

The men take things to which they have no right.

This life is shrill, shallow and without worth,

Full of things we do not need,

Like me it is broken, without mirth,

Full of codes we do not heed.

Black is the water from which we drink,

Leaden with the weight of human death,

Into war unending we now sink,

While cries for peace are but wasted breath.

I watch us wallow in languid waters,

Far from the reach of human voice,

I have seen burnt husks of sons and daughters,

And failed to understand their choice.

There's a national poetry magazine in Ireland that's published every 3 months.

because idk how ireland/europe works that well(though i heard that they're starting to go about it the way america does) but posting it on a public forum/blog gives up first publishing rights. if they google it to check or w.e they might not accept it because of that. it seems silly but the publishing world is a fucking bitch.
