looking for a foundation in rap

I want to give getting into hip hop a shot

I want to break in with maybe 4-5 albums, I don't want to get 20 reccomendations and not remember / distinguish them because it's so much new content for me

I'm kind of looking for two different 'styles':
1: Aggressive, fast paced, potentially angry rap. This is mostly a throwback to when I listened to nu-metal so it has some nostalgic comfort. A good example that I've heard kind of recently is something like P.O.S's track The Brave and the Snake.
2: Something chill, laid back, but still well written and complex. I'm not looking for RnB though, I don't want some soulful vocals, I'm still looking for rap at its core. Just more laid back 'chill' rap. I can't really explain well because I'm shitty at defining a genre I've ignored for the past decade outside of a few Roots songs and a POS album

Two other questions -
Is Frank Ocean any good? Outside of the fact he's gay and I ran into a lot of fans at Lolla I don't know much about him, but I've heard lots of noise and might also give him a go

Also is there a good Snoop Dogg album to check out or is he just more of a gimmick? Honestly he makes me laugh, and I'm kind of curious what his music is actually like (all I've heard of him is Still DRE)

frank ocean isn't really rap but channel orange is very good i recommend it

for your laidback genre i'd recommend below the heavens by blu and exile. very well produced and is pretty much exactly what you are looking for

for angry music i'd recommend the marshall mathers LP by eminem. VERY angry, almost a bit much but it is pretty much his masterpiece imo

ATCQ - Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders
Get both. MM is a little more accessible but I think you'd really like some of the musical aspects of these albums.

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
I'd imagine most people consider this the best mainstream rap album in a pretty long time. Great combination of musical experimentation and catchy brag rap. It hooked me on the first listen when I was in a phase where I listened to very little rap.

Kanye West - Graduation
See how much you like mainstream.

GZA - Liquid Swords
Assuming you like Enter the 36 Chambers, this is a must-download.

Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
I don't know how many progressive concept rap albums there are but I would imagine this is one of the best. It's extremely accessible, sometimes almost too accessible. I consider the opening track to be one of the best rap songs ever made.

Jay-Z - The Black Album
Jay-Z's best album, so you should probably give it a try.

You can't have a foundation in rap without Immortal Technique, probably the best rapper in terms of social commentary.

Kanye's College Dropout, Late Registration, and Dark Twisted Fantasy are by far the pinnacle of what outstanding production is in hip-hop, and there is literally no artist to have ever matched their production value in any amount of albums in the genre ever. If you want to appreciate that end of the rap/hip-hop spectrum, the production that is, you absolutely must listen to those albums.

As far as the rhyming aspect is concerned, anything Biggie will be amazing. He's the fucking Shakespeare of rap.
