Bluh bluh bluh. Name stuff.

 

- V Salamander should probably be V Salamandra due to Evilswarm Salamandra and the Spell Card Salamandra.

 

- Can't use Umbral for the Dark Fiend-Type Archetype, Penumbral Soldier Lady and Umbral Soul make this impossible. Might I suggest Adumbral?

 

- Mecha Phantom Beast Warburan, named after the Warbler bird and the Buran Russian Spacecraft.

 

- Mecha Phantom Beast Blueimpalase, named after the Impala antelope and the Blue Impulse Japanese Jet team.

 

- Mecha Phantom Beast Coltwing, named after a colt (baby horse) and a Tiltwing style vehicle.

 

- Mecha Phantom Beast Harri(a/e)rd seems to be an issue of contention. It's clearly named after a Harrier, but the anime is questionable, but most seem to agree it's some sort of Dog.

 

- Mecha Phantom Beast Concoruda is the Concorde Jet plus Garuda.

 

- Based on Ally of Justice Clausolas' flavor text, the Level 3 Synchro's name is Claiomah Solais.

 

- Armades seems to have a pun for what it's keeping. It sounds like 幻想 (Gensou, Illusions) but the Kanji is 幻層. 層 seems to refer to a "layer"/"strata" of sorts. I suspect that second Kani might be related to its arts, which we're going to have to wait another 2 months for a decent picture.

I'd really prefer we don't reinvent the wheel as often as unnecessary, and Adumbral has a pretty damn close similar meaning to Umbral. (Personally I'd rather Konami just rename Penumbral Lady and Umbral Soul and be fucking done with it)
 
- Balmung is going to need Madolche / Fire Fist Hawk text, I'm pretty sure.
- V Salamander is worded a lot like a "ZW -" monster, but it varies in that it doesn't target the equip target for w/e reason.
 
That's all I'm getting. Should I just dump the Japanese we have so far, later?

Well. There've been a lot of spoilers revealed recently on this set, so lemme throw my two cents in on something.

 

The 武神器? Apparently the common translation "War God Vessel" was reached by translating the final kanji without any respect for context. 器 can indeed mean "vessel," but in a broader sense (i.e. when used as the final kanji of a compound), it means a tool or instrument - 武器, notably, means "weapon." So "Wargod Weapons"? "Wargod Armaments"? Beats the crap outta me, though I will say "Wargod" looks better as one word; it'll be interesting what Konami calls 'em in the US...wouldn't put it past 'em to leave "Wargod" as "Bujin," which is fine since they appear to be all taken from Japanese mythology.

To our more experienced members with this shit, is there any special emphasis for why Bujin over Bushin, besides to avoid archetyping in Goldd?

 

All that's coming to mind for terms would be like "Lord of War", "Battle Spirit", or we could be lazy and make it "Bushin" for English speakers.

Either ぶしん or ぶじん is legit. When you have a compound like that, it's not unusual for the first consonant of the second kanji to end up voiced (i.e. the kana picks up a dakuten).

No, none of you did. Master D did, because lol literal translations. I'd rather wait until we have the finalized names to move them, because there's enough of them that moving all of them to an interim name, then again to the finalized name later will be a pain. If it's really a big issue, though, I'll make a wiki forum post and ask users to help me move them.

There's literal, and there's outright ignoring context. 器 is one of those annoyingly multifacet words, and in the use here, it would be best as Instrument/Tool/Arms/Gear/etc.

Still need a name for Umbral that isn't Superdarkness (that's retarded guys)

Tareia should be Thal(e)ia.

I'm fairly sure "Starform Dragon" is bad hyper literal translation.

Vain(ヴェイン)ー裏切の嘲笑 feels like we're going to shriek at making it work.

剣現する武神 I'm fairly sure is meant to mean "Appear/Become a Sword for the Bujin/Bushin".

I like "Superdarkness", until I append the rest of the card names to it.

 

For Starform, isn't the implication that the dragon is created from the star? So, "Starspawn"or some such?  "Starborn?"

For Umbrals, I'm THIS close to going Umbrall or Shadeshift.

The Bujin trap where Murakumo goes oversoul is a pun. It's basically "The Bujin Descend" contextually, but with the kanji changed to reflect Murakumo. I kinda want to go "Awakening of the Bujin Blade" or something.

Adumbral is an antonym for their sister archetype from the TV show, Shining. And I'll remind you Shining and Umbral are relevant to each other through Number 104 and Number C104. Basically the two need to mirror each other, or I beat on you guys for being stubborn.

Adumbral literally means something Dark or Shady. Explain to me the problem with it, that I'm not seeing.

Also I want to call the Spell Card for the Bujin "Rise of the Bujin" or "The Bujin Rises", or "Advent of the Bujin". Because he isn't so much descending here, as ascending from Yamato to Susanoo.
