Remember when X was worth an arm and a leg back when ...

Looking at YGO today, there still are cards worth over $40 and as we all know to play competitive, you need to spend some money for cards such as Dante or Quilphort Disk. I'm starting this thread for fun just to take a look back to see what cards people remember picking up for over $50 dollars or cards that had drastic increase of over x dollars. Enough to hurt the wallet.

I'll also list cards that I think were the most expensive cards in their rarity (that came in booster packs/CP/TU/GS).

Kind of like the guiness world record of most expensive card in a certain rarity and maybe in the future, there would be a card that'd top it

To start us off, I'll name a few

Vanity's Emptiness $45

Gravekeeper's Spy PGD + DR1 $12

Super Rejuvenation LOD + DB2 $15

I'm pretty sure Dark Strike Fighter and Gateway of the Six were both more expensive than Kizan when they were both legal at 3.

And Dark Armed was like $300 upon release if I recall correctly. I think JD was $200.

Dark Armed was only worth 60 euros upon release

It's the following week-end that it skyrocketed (there was a sjc), it wasn't crazy expensive right away

I remember in single card discussions we joked when TGU was coming out that it was going to be a $40 card and being mad about it. Then The first set of XYZ monsters came out, it was over $100, and we all wiped our tears with common sangans.

Il Blud was like $100 if I remember correctly. Not the most expensive, but still insane looking back.

I remember my friend trading a secret Necroface when it came out for a PSP.

That crappy dark magician book whose name escapes me was worth like 75-80 for the longest time because it was a secret until it got a reprint in gold 4.

Oh and for the record, of course X is going to be worth X. This title is mathematically shitty.

I bought two Dantes at 70 after they went up. That was probably the only time I really over paid.

The title just seems like a restatement of the reflexive property.
