There was a pique of interest in CSK about DnD, and I was thinking that we could have a small group if someone's down for DM'ing.

I personally, hate DM'ing because my stories become extremely linear through the campaign, but anyone interested in doing so post in here.

I wanted to make this thread, so it doesn't get buried.

We're leaning towards 3.5 / Pathfinder, because it's probably one of the best editions.

What's the medium you're interested in? Skype or Play-by-post?

I would DM if I knew how to play and had some tips to world build.

I also would like to stream us playing.

Skype or some other video/voice program would definitely be preferable to posting.

Skype seems best since it's easier to stream Skype audio

Yeah, definitely. I was asking because I live in Europe so that's not really an option for me. :)

this is probably the best bet:

you can do basic stuff for free but whoever wants to dm should at least consider the $5 a month package which adds a lot of qol stuff.

I would be willing to DM, however forwarning i have only been a player in the past. That being said, I have a lot of experience as a player in multiple games and campaigns, with multiple dm's. I would be willing to give dm-ing a shot if people are okay with someone who is new at running things.

I understand that I would need to let the players do what they want within reason, and know if boundaries are being pushed. I also understand if a story begins to be derailed, I would need to figure out a way to get it back on track without telling characters 'no', or need the ability to change the story of the campaign on the fly.

I've done quite a few games online via Skype and google hangouts as well.

If people would prefer someone more experienced dming, I would love to be a player. Doesn't matter to me.

I'm cool with Todd running it. It lets me have fun and it lets me not DM.

So the people who want to play are

  • verdant catacombs
  • paraliel
  • gojira (new)
  • rei
  • audioslayne (new)
  • satchmo (new)
  • Miya's Senpai (new? couldn't tell from your post.  you said 'if you knew how to play')
  • Patrick Starfish (new)

8 Players for 1 DM is a lot to keep up with.  especially turn order for combat.  We would need to slim this list down a bit, or we can split the players up into 2 groups.  do one group one day of the week and one group the other day of the week.

Ideally, I'd like to slim the group down to 5 players max due to time constraints throughout the week.  Is there anyone that isn't sure they can invest a few hours one day a week into a campaign, or is unsure about playing in general?  If five players go well without too much time passing in sessions, I can add one more player to the guild at a time after some sessions and see how it goes.

The only thing is how would I choose out of these 8 players to start the initial game?

I just bought all the stuff for 5E, so maybe you could run a 3.5/PF one and I could get down with the nitty gritty of 5E and run a campaign in maybe two weeks once I have it prepped?

I just need to know what restrictions there are. I have a habit of breaking games, without boundaries.

as a player, I have the same habit.

I'll pm you guys sometime this upcoming week, we will schedule a meeting time for character development and discussion about things, how I expect things to go, how players want things to go, etc.  we will discuss boundaries and whatnot then as well.

The floor under you slides away, and you fall into an acid pit, no save. Take 5d6 acid damage every turn.
