WELL, If CORE and DOCS are any indication we should be seeing:

- A Deck inspired by a classic strategy from the original Duel Monsters anime/manga (CORE was Red-Eyes chiefly focusing on the Metalmorph and B. Skull Dragon strategies used in Duelist Kingdom, DOCS was Gaia and Black Luster Soldier, which was used to finish Mai in Duelist Kingdom. Examples would be like, I dunno, more Harpie Support or hell, "Heavy Metal Raiders", a group of Machine-Type monsters with bomb, gun, torture and casino themes that all are resistant to Spell Cards.)

- A new Pendulum theme with a Field Spell related to their name that mentions a mythical beast with P in its name.

- A new Deck (see Aromage/Greydle)

Not to be a wishful thinker, but how likely is Konami to not release TCG exclusives either"?

WIzard of Oz archetype has already been announced and is going to be BA 2.0 more than likely

So a 0% chance

It's an American Fairy tale, I just said Wizard of Oz as shorthand

There's no confirmation yet

Nah. They're apparently focusing on the classic elemental set of Fire, Wind, Water and Earth from what can be observed.

Find an EARTH or WATER related mythical creature whose name begins with P and you'll probably get somewhere.

Oh.

Since this is a Black Set, it should be bonkers, but DOCS has been pretty silly itself, but the Black and White sets have a tendency to get cartoonishly silly on the power level.

I'm probably missing something but the only "big" card I'm seeing is Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon. Scar-right is quite strong but unless Konami manages to bring back Synchros in force, it's not doing shit.

Higurumi is basically a recursive searcher for Tricklown, Hatricker, Damajuggler, etc, who have already proven themselves. That can trigger Thousand Blades. (however this depends on fully being utilized by the rest of the group's Pendulums being printed, which might be being held off 'til October for one reason or another).

Majespecter is basically designed to be Removal Gadget as a Pendulum Theme, with the added bonus of laughing at basically all existing removal cards in the game.

Scar-Right is pretty nuts for what it is, and I'm a bit dubious that they'd be wasting this set and Highspeed Riders and just let it flop.

Raikiri benefits off of Blackwing's generalized design to swarm. (But it runs into the similar issues of Scar-Right, and most of the Blackwings generally having been out powered a tad).

Vortex as you said.

Greydle seems worthy of keeping an eye on, if only for the fact they seem based on penalizing the opponent for getting rid of them.

The set has good cards, but one shouldn't be discounting them just because of a bunch of Blue Framed cosplayers and "lol Juudai/Janden".dek. Then again, my bar for 'silly' are a bit lower than others.

Higurumi's worth depends on whether running Pendulums in Dennis.dek ever becomes worthwhile. Yes, Empowered Clownblade is a thing, but that deck doesn't actually Pendulum Summon. Also, you'd still need to actually trigger its effect. I'm sure they could rework the entire suite of Pendulum Entermages to have this kind of strong synergy with both themselves and the old Entermage trio, but there's hardly any guarantee that they will.

Majespecters blanking out almost all forms of monster removal is nifty and all, but I'm probably missing something about the deck because I'm not really seeing how you're actually supposed to build it. You'd probably have to play monster heavy hybrid with some other Pendulum themes or generic support, and rely on your searching effects to provide defense. I'm not discrediting them but I do fear they will go the way of Igknights.

Greydles' floating feels too easy to bypass, assuming that all the others will be similar to Eagle. And the deck just mostly feels far too passive, sort of like Yang Zings really, except worse. I don't want to judge an archetype by just two main deck cards but it's not looking good for them right now.

I wouldn't count Igknights out in the long term. There's something about Dracoslayer, Igknights and Majespecters that points to them all being parts of a bigger them, and unlike Zefra, I get the vibe that whatever greater theme is likely meant to ultimately congeals.

Also if we're not getting Fire Dancer, Wind Sucker or Mirror Conductor this set, I get the feeling Majespecter is why. "Run the ultimate Rank 4 Engine with Pendulum Gadgets, it's totes McGoats 4Realz, Srsly". They've done this kind of stop gap awkwardness, as when Pendulum Sorcerer was originally released in the OCG, they were recommending Dragon Dowser and Front Observer to boost the consistency of your Performapal Deck.

If true, I'm half wondering if this is ultimately a victim of "Jerome thinks Synchros and Tuners are busted" logic as he was literally shocked CWSD wasn't being run at more ludicrously huge numbers at YCS 150, because he seemed to indicate in a recent article that they've been printing super powerful Tuners and Synchros recently. At least in his view.

oh wow so nevermind higurumi is fucking insane, if it actually triggers when destroyed in your pendulum zone as well

if pendulum performage actually becomes a thing that card is going to be just fucking disgusting, especially with the lack of hard OPT

  • Pegasus
  • Phoenix
  • Peryton

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_legendary_creatures_(P)

Bunch of others, but those 3 already appeared in YGO and the others felt like made-up mythical beasts.

Better not be a Pegacorn of all things.

Swords will clash with the Breakers of Shadow booster set! Sharpen your blades and get ready to Duel with brand new Deck themes and the revival of a legend to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME!

Buster Blader is back as Buster Blader, the Destruction Swordmaster, with a mighty band of new support cards that make this iconic monster stronger than ever before! In addition to this legendary warrior, Breakers of Shadow also introduces exciting new Deck themes and strategies! The Shiranui use the strength of Samurai spirit warriors to power you through Duels, while Twilight Ninjas rely on speed and numbers to overwhelm your foes. Opponents will feel the power of the Dinomists, steam-powered Pendulum dinosaurs that can land a heavy hit when you least expect it.

New cards for existing themes are also included like Melodious, Goyo, Majespecter, Odd-Eyes, Performapal, Magicians, and more, headlined by over a dozen new Extra Deck monsters! Many cards in this set will have excellent synergy with the newly released Master of Pendulum Structure Deck. Also, Duelists can now look forward to getting at least 1 foil card in every booster pack!

It's BOSH, sadly.

Also I kind of expect it to be the Shark and Rio stuff we never got. Probably a lot from that set can be justified as being friendly with Dinomist.
