What shall I watch movies wise

Recommended Posts

Aaron    2025

Never really been into films but I really want to get into them now I have my new surround setup with an AVR. Everything I've hated about watching films has gone. I now genuinely prefer watching them at home than a cinema with my new home cinema setup.

Any new-ish films I NEED to watch. I know I need to watch shit like the godfather. I've downloaded LOTR trilogy to start on, I've watched captain america 1+2 to watch civil war but heard i need to watch avengers and all this shit before watching it so they're on the backburner.

Watched the Harry potter films.. dreadful, awful, horrible...

You dont need to see Captain America 1 at all, and you could probably skip 2

Honestly Civil War is basically Avengers 3 in a lot of ways, you could just watch Avengers 1, 2, and Civil War to get that story

Cap America 2 was a solid but not outstanding ride, Cap 1 is super meh

yeah I like the harry potter films because im a book fan and anything is better than nothing but holy fuck the books outclass the shit out of them

Yeah watch the Godfather it's really good - I avoided it for a long time because I was scared it was overhyped. It's just damn good you dont need to worry

Mad Max Fury Road is the best action movie of the last 20 years or so

Ip Man and its two sequels that actually have Donnie Yen in it are good kung fu movies

Revenant was pretty solid if you like torture porn and really really beautiful arctic landscapes - prob a good movie for visuals for your new setup

I found Kingsmen fucking hilarious. Not everyone agrees with me

Drive

What movies do you like?

I don't think the Marvel Cinematic Universe is really a must-watch...If you enjoy them go for it but they're pretty formulaic.

The Dark Knight trilogy is the pinnacle super hero movies.

I thought Logan was a very fresh take on the genre.

John Wick (2014) is one of the best action movies of the past few years.

The Life of Pi (2012) is my second favourite new-ish movie, can recommend.

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) I also really enjoyed, as well as anything else directed by Wes Anderson.

if we are on the topic of super hero movies, the dark knight is the big one. The other two in the trilogy are solid but not great, but the dark knight imo is the best comic super hero movie ever made.

The Incredibles is also amazing.

Deadpool's also up there.

The MCU's very formulaic. They're almost all certainly entertaining, but  the only ones that are really groundbreaking are Iron Man 1, Avengers 1, Cap 2, maybe Cap 3, and Guardians 1.

Outside of that

Skyfall's one of the best bonds, but I know a lot of people just don't like Bond movies

It's definitely older, but if you haven't seen Shawshank Redemption, see it.

Django Unchained

Dodgeball

Also on the topic of super hero movies:

Watchmen's good.

youtube the fight between batman vs superman in dawn of justice. The entire rest of the movie's a giant waste tbh, but that fight is great.

Like it hurts my brain that youd recommend skyfall before casino royale

Casino Royale is arguably the peak of the bond franchise, watch that

I'll give scott pilgrim a download too neji!! :D

I watched Kingsmen.... hmmm well basically it was just brillant. Really well balanced film, easily my favorite spy film to date... everything about it was just perfect. It didn't take itself too seriously, the villains were imaginative, funny but also cut throat, the girl with the sharp legs was straight out of an anime, it surprisingly packed a lot of repercussions which i liked.... the film is built on like 1000 cliches and then blends them all together.. and then breaks all the cliches to give more realistic character choices... in a very unrealistic world and plot. and the action scenes were phenomenal.. like django unchained phenomenal but they actually didnt feel out of place given the film didnt take itself too seriously.

But the comic > the movie amirite

If you like spy movies that don't take themselves too seriously, watch early bond > New bond, if there's one fault you could ascribe to Craig's bond it's that it completely abandoned the campiness of the old Bond franchise

Because Craig's Bond is as Ian Fleming originally intended.
