The weirder the poem sounds during casual conversation, the better it is.
generally speaking my appraisal is based on one of three things
1: How easy it is to relate to.
This is pretty hard to judge as its REALLY EASY to do this. This usually leads to LIKING a poem but not really making it good. See any song by Blink 182
2: Metaphor (1) and allusions
In the text, the more multiple meanings and ways things can be concieved the better. And the more little smug references to other works, subtly conveyed, is appreciated in that "OH LOOK I SPOITTED A LITTLE REFERENCE TO X WORK" sort of way

The more ways a poem can be taken the better
