Is anybody else tired of turn based combat these days? Playing Pokemon made me realise how boring it is.

I was watching my girlfriend play Lets go Pikachu and it seemed okay for nostalgia's sake, but I think id get bored of it pretty quickly. Even though I played pokemon religiously back in the day.

Pokemon mainline games are absurdly easy and simplistic, only the romhacks are close to worth playing.

If you think turn based is boring you should play Into the Breach, which is an example of how you do turn based right.  Turn based is super dependant on the UI and mechanics and it's easy to do wrong.

Currently playing tons of ATLAS and it's an amazing game which has been patched amazingly fast, all of the release issues are solved and it's one of the best games to play with a large guild ever.  And one of the worst to play solo.

KH3 6-7/10

Going to play DOS2 next. Very excited but I've been stuck at the character selection screen for 30 minutes.

rei how is VR gaming treating you?

I have so many VR games I want to play but my fundamental issue with it is, whenever I want to game, i dont have the energy to actually stand up and be interactive and all that shit. after a hard day at work and a few hours in the gym and social life stress, i kinda just wanna sit there and be absorbed.

Telltale Games' The Walking Dead Season 2.

I was on State of Decay 2 but a bug made me unable to complete a mission and I got fed up and stopped. A shame because I really think it had potential underneath the flaws and certain design decisions. The core gameplay loop of making those supply runs is fun to me, as is building up a base. I would like them to add RPG/narrative elements to State of Decay 3, where I can have more control over my community and foster it into a place to keep us safe from the undead. Like dialogue options that have effects on what happens. Then I can become like the Govenor from The Walking Dead TV show.

I thought season 1 and 2 were good, I just wish the choices you make impacted the story more than they ended up doing. But in terms of the narrative I became invested. For me Clementine is a top 3 Walking Dead character (with Rick and maybe the Governor). I grew attached to her and am debating buying season 4 which I didn't know was out until a couple days ago. I will likely avoid season 3 as you don't play as her in it. I have grown attached to her and I hope they don't kill her off as she will have a chance to appear in the comics or the TV show.

Really? I mean I find them okay, but to me they just feel like a 1 hour episode of the WTD but instead spread over multiple multiple hours.

Playing through TW3 DLC. Man this game is so theraputic. I forgot how chill it is. I kinda powered through the main game but in hindsight which I was just kinda played it over a couple of months.

I gotta start a new VR game too cos the batman Arkham VR shit was epic at the end.

Completed recently:

Batman Arkham VR (last 20 minutes some of the best video game experiences of all time for myself)

TW3 HOS - excellent

Playing:

ROTR - fucking destroys uncharted, honestly idk how people even compared the two. this game in terms of openess, exploration, combat, even freaking story and character likeability is streets ahead. technically looks much better too. it only lacks that nathan drake cheeky indian jones charm which i personally am neither here nor there about. manages to disguise its linearity much better than uncharted.

BOTW (CEMU) - come on its BOTW.

Thanks to the switch sales, I'm replaying FFVII for the first time since my first time playing it a billion years ago AND once that's dead and over with, I have FFIX ready and waiting... which I have never played before. @rei Are you proud of me senpai?

finished ROTR. Can confirm it destroys the uncharted franchise (at least 1 to 3).

I'm now in two minds between starting Dishonoured 2 or Kingdom Come Deliverance. Probably going to start with Dishonoured 2 because I've been waiting to play it for years but KCD in the 15 mins I ran around testing out graphics mods, looks fucking insane and I've heard its now refined and much better since release.

Bloodstained Ritual of the Hype is probably the best game release of the year.

You think you've played all the metroidvania style platformers but this one is *stunning* even though it's not as pretty as hollow knight.  Just a really well put together game

Teamfight tactics is also an amazing ripoff of other auto chess games with better UI and auto chess is amazing

I'd say its probably better. A little less open but a lot more refined and if you like to explore levels, then its really rewarding. Combat is good too, although i didn't like the lack of a crouch button (Lara automatically crouches in combat and hides.. I found that a bit too automated and reminded me of Sony cinema experience games.
