It's not that I hate Hillary, but she would be the worst democratic nominee in my lifetime. Her approval rating is bad, her heads up matchups are bad, her standing among independents is bad, and voters consider her to be the least trustworthy candidate in the race. She'd get crushed in the general, and it would be good for the Democratic party if she did. Then in 2020 they might actually pick someone who's well liked by the voters instead of the party elites.

you got any current polls to back this up (her being crushed in a general)

Heads up matchups: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/2016_presidential_race.html
Favorability rating: http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/hillary-clinton-favorable-rating
There isn't a ton of data on independent voters, but all of the data that I can find says that very few of them like Hillary: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/9/17/1422117/-Poll-of-Independents-Sanders-45-Trump-26-HRC-9
Qualities that voters associate with Hillary: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/poll-liar-frequently-word-hillary-clinton/story?id=33361629

iirc Bill Clinton left office with a surplus. I know Hillarys reputation but idgaf because all of the Republican nominees are batshit crazy or evangelical cunts.

230mil+ surplus.

I will NEVER vote for anyone claiming religious views will guide their politics.

every single politician in us history wasnt it?

The polling isn't straightforward at all at all, the electoral equation will change far more if Trump gets the nomination, and when Republicans can zero in on Sanders/Clinton with attack ads.  The electorate won't fully grasp the idea of Trump v Sanders until it actually is forced to consider Trump v Sanders, people's opinion will change.  Just like Romney tilted to the left at the general, who knows what the candidates will do.  Ted Cruz could advocated cutting military spending, Trump could support taxes for the rich and abortion.

Ultimately though both Sanders/Clinton have equal weaknesses in the general, the pain that Clinton is taking from being on the south side of Sander's generational gap and the opinions of small donors just hurts, and Sander's weakness as a far left candidate in a country so conservative it hasn't gotten rid of the penny.  Sanders could easily lose the election because tar hits rubber and Americuh sees ad after ad of him calling himself a socialist.  Clinton could lose because the FBI apparently has actual legal avenues to pursue with the email setup, and if it pursues them Fox News will wet itself in joy.

The only guaranteed thing is that no matter what happens, all the candidates on both sides have such glaring weaknesses to attack ads that no matter who wins it'll be a pyrrhic victory.  I'd almost call it a good election for democrats to lose.

Not really. They were all probably religious, but not every one of them waved the bible at every opportunity.

95% Bern 92% Hildawg

I have criticisms for every US politician but I would still vote Sanders and I couldn't vote a Repub against Hildawg cause they're all insane.

Depending on how tight this shit is I may go to the US Consulate to vote this time, though I don't think the Dems are going to have much trouble winning Maryland.

So if Trump wins the nomination there's an actual chance he gets elected?

There's always a chance

I mean Jim Crow was realistically not that long ago, there is still a solid portion of America that is ignorant and uneducated enough to vote in someone like Trump

I mean he can always easily get the votes of the rich as well since he isn't going to change much there

I'm not saying I like it either or I want it, just there is a realistic chance

I don't agree with Sanders on a lot of issues, but at least he isn't full of shit. I've only ever heard him say things I disagree with, as opposed to absolutely stupid and incorrect shit like Trump and Hillary. Don't really dislike any of the republicans, (Except Ben Carson but he's not a realistic pick) but can't really see them doing anything meaningful. Trump, don't really like either, but I can see being an okay pick since the media and law won't realistically let him do anything reckless, and lobbyists/economists would be able to work well with him. I'm not sure there's a single big news outlet that is consistently positive about him.

@Religious Talk: I do believe I recall Rubio making it a point that while religion is important to him, he won't make decisions based on it since this is a country for everyone. Take that as you will but I thought it was pretty bold to say that when typically conservatives really reach hard for the evangelical vote.

I don't think a political thread is the place for image replies and snarky over-simplifications of points you disagree with. If you disagree then tell me why and don't be a snark-flavored pussy.

Image is fairly relevant when it's about someone who relishes in their image.

Yes the racist billionaire is an "ok pick"

This seemed like an appropriate response. How do you justify someone who has literally hate monger'd in several speeches?

If the argument for a candidate is ''He won't be allowed to do anything too crazy", I don't think there's much that needs to be said because it sort of implies that the platform he is running on is crazy.

curious why you some of you think marco will win the general

my thinking on it:

obviously I can't just single out one thing that can be negatively ran against a candidate and call it comparative reasoning because all of them have easy attack-ads and angles against them so without raw numbers and correlations to see where it hurts them (mitt romney 47% thing etc,) it just sort of becomes empirical to look at it that way. Still, the robot thing has already been a problem for him and that's with the focus not even really on him in the past month or two and more-so on Trump and Cruz. If he is the nominee now all the focus is just on him and his opp, so when more of these "glitches" (there have been 2 or 3 found so far) come up it will be way more effective at that point.

edit: actually looking back at some of the polling atm he's doing pretty well in projected matchups. still, it would also have to be contingent on him winning the primaries as well, and wouldn't consider the aforementioned spotlight on glitching, you guys think he can take both?

Except my argument was "He won't be allowed to do anything crazy, and would also at least do some good regarding the economy."

Look, as I said I don't like Trump so I'm not going to adamantly defend the "okay pick" label. But if people want to disagree to an extended point, it's counter-productive to just declare "I disagree."

Even if it's in an edgy, abrasive manner.

But, I recognize now that I'm simply preaching political debate etiquette to the wrong crowd if we think /pol/ shitposting is an acceptable standard.
